For the record, I didn't have anything to do with this! I wonder what kind of person actually likes this kind of thing? Who would actually use this service??

That's probably why I've never seen it.

Can someone provide a screenshot of this mysterious bar?

I think they are talking about this bar...

Am I correct?

Hi guys,

Clearly we have made a misjudgement with this.

I found this tool running on a Venture Beat when I highlighted some text. Apture's aim is to help keep users engaged on a site by providing extra info on text you may have highlighted. So it should help keep users on the TGC site, which I felt was a good thing for TGC.

I can undertand the drop down sharing bar being annoying so I'll turn that off now.

If you can also opt out on Apture's site are we OK keeping the "Find Out More" pop up?

I miss that bar

R.I.P. Apture drop down bar, we hardly knew you.

Thanks RickV. I believe what keeps most of us engaged here are these great forums and the amazing products TGC makes. There is no need for any gimmicks.

Once I found out how to opt out, I was fine. It would have been nice to know up-front and the opt out info given so we could make our choice but like I said, it's your forum.

Anyway, it's not like we've ever complained about anything before.

I don't understand that logic, if someone doesn't understand something or wants to research it they will go look it up and then come back to the forum. No one ever really leaves TGC.

Thanks for responding Rick, this is the reason I only come on this forum, unlike other forums TGC Mods actually pay attention to what's happening and aren't too aloof to respond.

To be honest, I still don't like the little pop up boxes. They remind me of those sites where every other word is an advert that pops up when you hover over it. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but I imagine to a new user it looks kind of cheap.

im feeling irrirated by the copy paste highlight menu thing its making typing in the post box impossible and irritable... I simply do not like it, I do however like how you can search the entir forum for related content but it needs fixing as it also affects this comment box I find it difficult to copy paste into here... isnt ther a way to make it RIGHT CLICK activated instead? I do lie it, just hope it can be changed...

Rick,

I am all for listening to what some of your forum members have to say about changes, in fact I think it is great, but on behalf of TGC wouldn't it be best to see what Apture does for the site traffic before removing any features of it?

I had a good experience with that select and popup thing. I didn't know what it was so I highlighted it to copy and was like "Click here for more" I was like "ok?" and it showed what I needed to know.

The scrolling bar however was annoying. Nice one TGC!

The pop-up is extremely useful, I don't know how necessary it is to have the pop-up on the site though. There is an Apture extension (which I've been using since long before it was added to the forums) that is just the pop-up, so if people really want to use the service, they can just install the extension.

I hate the pop-up box! I didn't mind it until I tried to copy text from someone's post, it makes it impossible to copy more than one line at a time! This seriously damages the forum.

Thanks for removing it, I found it looked unprofessional and it made TGC look cheap, and that could have possibly scared away customers. TGC rocks as it is!

This is getting very annoying. It seems that something or someone has "opted" me in again. Is there any way of being permanently opted out from this - other than permanently leaving the forum of course?

Green, I posted about two solutions. Modify your hosts file to route www.apture.com to localhost, or block the website on your router.
