Just turned my monitor on (a 24" westinghouse) and had a blue vertical line about 2 inches from the left side. I cycled through the monitor's inputs and power, no change. I tried wiggling the hdmi-dvi cable with no change. I walk downstairs to get a drink, come back and the line is gone! I'm not complaining its gone, but it looked like one of those vertical lines you see on failing monitors like my apple powerbook. I paid close to $600 for this thing so I am a little concerned if it was just a minor glitch or if I should start saving money now.

It's hard to say. I would blame the monitor cable to start with. It could be the monitor though, or it could have been a fluke.

How old is the monitor?

I want to say I bought it sometime in the Fall of 2007.

The problem with the cable is I don't have another HDMI-DVI cable, but have been considering buying a second one anyway for my tv.

Hmm, well that's about 3 1/2 years now so, depending on how much use it got, it could be failing.

Check out monoprice, reliable and very cheap. They also have some $40 drawing tablets. By very cheap I mean $1 - $2.

Yea I'm aware of mono cables. The shipping costs more than a cable! I was just waiting til I thought of a few things I wanted to buy all at once.

At almost $600, this monitor better last a lot longer than 3 years. My CRT was good for the previous 7 years and was only replaced because the screen got dark, but still fully functional without a flaw in the picture.

You should single out any other issues first. If you don't have a spare GPU lying around that you can swap out, then hook up your PowerBook and test it with that to eliminate a faulty GPU from the equation.

powerbook no longer works $2500 down the drain, thanks steve!

I have another laptop though. Since the line went away, I can't do much to troubleshoot unless it returns.
