Aw, you beat me to it. I was just checking the forums and getting ready to make a topic, haha. From what I can understand from that link, though, is that none of the servers in the states are online yet. They're only going a few states at a time, so it may even be tomorrow or the next day until little ol' West Virginia gets PSN back.

And look at what the world accomplished while it was offline:

1. Osama was killed.

2. Libyan Rebels took over more cities.

3. A decent movie actually managed to get made (Fast Five).

4. Microsoft purchased Skype (God help us...).

Oh well, back to Bad Company 2.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

Well it's still down for me. Not that I play my PS online but next week L.A. Noire is out and I would like to download my pre-order DLC.

It was supposed to be a monkey / kangaroo fire-breathing hybrid. And it would be 70 km tall, and keep a giant laser in it's pouch.

From the link at the bottom of my post (href linkage doesn't work. Something to do with the % I'm guessing). Are you sure it's not online? I haven't tested it out personally, but from what I can tell, all of the States are back up and so is Canada from the map they provided. I mean, I'll check it out to make sure, but I'm pretty positive it should be back up.

I'm not able to download an update or change my password... it's all very odd...

Edit.. I had to sign in to PSN which is usually done automatically which is why I wasn't getting the option to update... However, I still can't change my password...

What free games? From what I understand each person is getting a free month of PSN Premium. Why should we get free games? Their service is free to start with, it's like expecting someone who offers freeware to give you $10 if the program doesn't work.

I don't understand that argument. Free PSN was part of the deal when buying the PS3, so you have every right to expect a proper service.

It's the same as if you bought a TV that came with a free PS3, if the PS3 didn't work you'd be entitled to a refund as that's part of the deal.

You should look at Sony's agreement then. They are not obligated to provide to us free internet access. Nowhere on the box does it say, "Free PSN."

Maybe not, but it's one of the main reasons I bought a PS3 and if they stop the service I'll go buy an xbox. My PS3 is broken atm anyway so PSN being offline doesn't effect me lol.

Legally anything which comes free with a product must be usable, though it may be different for services

People don't seem to understand, they are not legally binded to offer it free, or even offer it at all.

Since when did good business come down to legalities?
What would happen if Sony turned around and just said, "Meh, we are bored of PSN now, after the hack we really can't be arsed. We might have it up again within a year or so, but we have better things to do. After all, we don't legally owe you anything Mr. Customer".

I don't think many people would buy a PS4 if they did that.

That; and people's information being opened up to the hackers. It's also an issue of trust; as in people trusting Sony not to botch things again. The "take it or leave it" attitude wouldn't drive much business their way, especially after what happened.

I never heard anything about free games. I heard about special content, but they never said we'd be getting free games, as far as I'm aware. Having said that, I do think PSN store credits are in order, at least enough to buy an HD movie or two, or maybe a Greatest Hits game. That's what I'd do if I ran Sony, but I don't, so it all boils down to whatever corporate suits are willing to hand out.

I think I actually read it in a newspaper, you get to choose 2 games from a shortlist of 5.

I believe Sony are currently looking through each user's purchase history to make sure the 5 games are the ones most purchased from PSN. That way they minimise the loss of doing this.

I've only bought a few PS1 classics, and that's because they were on sale. Regardless, something is better than nothing. I could care less if I get anything, I'm just glad I can get on again.

In terms of buying from the PSN store, I've always stuck to PSN cards for this very reason. Hackers can't get a hold of credit card info this way, or anybody for that matter.

One of the best open world/sandbox games I've ever played. It's one of those games that didn't come out of my console until it was finished. I played it as a 'good guy' even though this is clearly the wrong way to play.

I LOVE that game! it's really hard most of the time and sort of repetitive though, still, entirely worth it.

What's Dead Nation? I'll look it up, might get it instead of Wipeout, plus i've never had a Zombie game before! (oddly enough)

EDIT:
Nah, i'll Skip it. Still going for Wipeout, I hate 3rd person shooter games, especially ones with the camera above them.

I already sold my PSP. I did buy spyro with my credt card. So I get data theft thrown in as an extra, and little recouse. Last Sony purchase I ever make.

It seems likely that the information was obtained, and knowing corporate behavior, was probably an md5 hash that could be easily brute-forced.

Who knows, Sony doesn't even know what's going on.

Why is everyone believing Sony? Sony is a known liar.
