Hello! I celebration of me figuring out the issue i posted about in my Circuit Simulation Software thread, i posted a thread about avatars!

First of all, does anyone ever look at other people's avatars?

Second, who makes their own, who uses images off the internet, and who uses one that come with your TGC account?

Also, what do you guys think of the one i made? I made it pixel by pixel in GIMP, zoomed in 600% the whole time Great fun, great fun! I made it to look like the webpage was textured.

So because the 'sig' thread was a big success, you figured you'd move on to avatars? What's next? Forum names?

Brian.

I don't remember where I found it.
Probably did a google search for "blue abstract" with icon-size images.
Because blue and abstract are awesome.

Nearly everyone looks at avatars. Whether they admit it or not, they likely do. Simply because it is an easy way of recognizing who is who without having to really read anything.

I use an image I found off the internet years and years ago. It was a "grumpy grill cheese samich" that I made into a very very huge trend into back in high school. During christmas time, I photoshoped a santa hat on to it and I decided to keep it because it makes me laugh.

Come to think of it, I might have had that as my desktop. I think I just searched "abstract background" or something.

I got mine off the internet.

The tree silhouette one I used to have... well, I took a greyscale picture of a tree (in a light that had good contrast), then turned the contrast waaay waay up, added a couple touches, and then shrunk it down.

Also I have no idea what you're talking about "does anyone ever look at _____"

yes. that's what eyes are for.

I do, but never really care, to be honest. They do serve a purpose though, it's great for associating names with pictures.

It's the logo of my company. My co-conspirator created it in MS Paint after our regular artist-in-crime sketched it in his dummy while - most likely - wasted. It had this horrible Dutch pun.

Mines Bass from Megaman. I've always like the Megaman series of games but didn't want to use Megaman himself. Bass has a head fin that reminds me of my long hair and he's running because I walk a lot.

I grabbed it from the internet from a sprite sheet and made it into an animation but changed the color of the jewels at the head and chest from cyan to dark green because it's my second favorite color (next to Black).

@ Grog, even though you pointed out the differences, I can barely see them. I have to come within 2cm of my screen to see the differences

I used to have the space invader animation but I decided on creating something a little more unique and you can now see the end result.

@Grog
Megaman is awesome, but I only ever completed battle network. Did it with ALL chips and secret areas found though

I made mine in photoshop. Here's a bigger (but still scaled down) version:

You will have hopefully noticed this month's newsletter cover was made up of forum avatars.

Being a DBP Geek, I wrote a program in DBP to download over 100 avatar images to a folder to create the cover. The ones chosen had either posted a certain number of posts or own one of the forum badges.

I remember back when Shadowtroid was on the forums and he began posting these:

and I mean posting them everywhere. Then I said (in the height of my Batman love) he should post some Batman version of it. I made one myself but it stunk so Budokaiman ended up making one. I changed it to the right dimensions, and that's my avatar.

That's awsome, I managed to spot mine above the 0's, and dotted randomly around the edges, nice idea.

I decided to go with the dude, might change my sig to some form of persian rug... hmmmm, to photoshop at once!

Oh yeah, I never noticed I was there...

Mine I think originally was an animated spinning skull. Was like that for most of the decade. For a bit I changed it to the dreamweaver of horror (Garth Marenghi), but in the end changed it to the totally awesome Dr. Lucien Sanchez.

Because once in a blue moon, something that's popular is actually good enough to earn that status.

Personally I like the show, feels reminiscent of the 90s era of Cartoon Network, not surprising as they have the creator of Powerpuff Girls and a voice actor from Edd, Ed 'n' Eddy on board. As well as the person who voiced the kid from Fairly Odd Parents.

But that's for another thread...

I look at other user's avatars all of the time. It's how I identify them without having to read their forum name, because I'm a lazy son-of-gun.

Mine was grabbed off of the internet somewhere...I honestly don't remember where from. I believe I did a Google search for "coffee cup graphic" or something like that, then just adjusted a royalty-free image to fit the forum dimensions and wah-lah, I had me a forum avatar that was fairly decent.

Made mine back when I first joined the forums. Haven't changed it since. I'd like to think it's sort of unique, but we all like to think things sometimes.

Hehe, I forgot that you first joined the forums sometime around my original name-change. I changed it again because "CoffeeCoder" just doesn't quite work for me anymore. I'm not really sure why, it just seems like it didn't quite "fit" my personality. "Yodaman Jer" works better for me, and I hadn't realized how much I missed it until everyone started asking for a name change in that other thread.

And now, my avatar is one that I made in GIMP shortly before my original name-change. It took me all of 20 minutes to create and animate. I think it's only about 15 frames.

@DB dude 79: Your avatar is decent. It kinda blends into the forum background, though...perhaps you could use different colors?

EDIT: Scratch that, it was just the angle of my view. It actually stands out very well. I like it.

I rarely give avatars a proper look, so I've only had some idea of how they all look based on what I've seen out the corner of my eye. It turns out I'm pretty far off the mark in many cases.

@ Hodgey:

Also mine has one more frame of animation. The animation is a bit jerkier too... I'm probably off by a pixel in a frame or two. Attached is a picture of all frames for both animations.

Cool! The quick way to get a bunch of Megamans is the Playstation 2 Megaman Anniversary Collection. It has Megaman 1 to 8 with 2 games that weren't released in America.
