My teacher used a pub analogy to explain why thick wires have lower resistance:
Quote: "If everyone in a pub is an electron, and there's a hell of a load of people in the pub, then getting from the bar to your seats gonna be really difficult, but if the pubs bigger (hence a thicker wire) it's gonna be easier"
He also used woman driver's to explain resistance in parallel circuits:
Quote: "If it's the weekend and there's a massive sale going on at lakeside (it's a big shopping centre nearby), then all these woman are gonna be driving down the motor way and it's gonna get congested (hence high resistance) but some of the women decide to go another route that's longer, but has less traffic on it, so more women can get there quicker."
That man is a brilliant teacher.
