After seeing this I was pretty impressed. I was intrigue by the possibilities it presented. It might sound stupid, but I decided to put a small voltage accross my tongue - I have seen guys put 9v batteries on their tongues before with no damage so I thought it should be alright

I started off with about 0.5v just to check nothing crazy was going to happen, when I thought I was feeling something but I wasn't sure so I went to 4v. I could definately feel a stronger metallic taste when the voltage was on. To prove this I connected an LED and a wire out of a chip which would turn the light on and raise the voltage "randomly" and simultaneously. I could definately notice a difference and therefore I could tell when the LED was lit up or not without looking. I then moved on to 2 wires and could tell when each was on or off...

Just been thinking of all the possibilities. Perhaps largely replacing screens. It would allow the input to the brain to be much higher so long as your not eating you could have both a screen and a tongue-tingler feeding you information...
Anyone else got any ideas?

If pots and pans were "if"s and "and"s there would be no work for programmer's hands...

Wow that's cool. Kind of like those deaf folks who use echolocation. Except they use their ears to process visual information and this guy uses his tongue.

Wow... the forum president thinks it's cool. I am humbled!
But anyways...yeah, I saw that. Ive always been interested by this kinda thing because although it would be cool to be an android I just wouldn't feel comfortable having hardware physically implanted into me (unless to replace a limb). So this is a nice halfway...

Did you know that blind people can buy a camera that feeds electrical signals onto a plate, which is placed on your tongue? It takes a while to get used to all of the prickling and twitching, but they are soon able to see again.

Isn't that what this guy is doing?

Well he asked if it were possible and what possibilities there might be, and I said it was and gave an example

[EDIT] Didn't click the link...

Awesome title

I watched that program, though admittedly I didn't respond to it by electrocuting myself. I'm sure You'll revolutionise the world one day, with spiked blackened hair

The problem with reading data through your tongue is that it takes a while for you to read even basic information. Increasing the number of wires to more than 6-8 would just be too confusing to understand. The only reason the pictures work is you are taking in one piece of information from many inputs

Ocho, the brain is an amazing thing, if it can adapt to see pictures using your tongue, just think of the possibilities.

you'd be suprised how easy it is to confuse it... or maybe that's just me

Try playing three songs in your head at the same time which aren't in sync with each other

This is actually pretty impressive.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

if you did this regularly you probably would be able to pick out individual songs.

Tell me if there's a broken link to images in a thread I post, and I'll fix 'em.

I can sing and play guitar. I can talk and type (seperate sentances) and I reckon with a bit of practice I could probably read at the same time. If you had to rely on any system for long enough your brain would adapt Im sure.

Take drums for example, I can't play to save my life, but if I practiced long enough, i'd eventually be able to make my feet and arms do separate things.

i did 220v a few times (open wall socket)its cool i guess but this stuff can really kill you so i try to stay away from any exposed wall sockets. Kinda hard tho. I tried my first wall socket when i was about 5yo. after that i thought i was a robot.

dont hate people who rip you off, cheat and get away with it, learn from them

I thought that was enough to kill you instantly, like for definite, not chance.
