If your uC is up to it, try an audio project they're always great fun - but unless it can do FFT then forget it.

It's an atmega 644. It seems to support everything so I'm sure it does.
any links to some good fft tuts regarding audio? might make an 8-bit synth or something.

Lightbar: bar of 8 leds.
MCU: Microcontroller unit. So yeah, a programmable chip.

That would be a very awesome project Although you might want to get say three sig-gen chips and control them with the uC, I'm not sure Atmegas are really designed for DSP stuff - but if you could get those sig-gens on the go it would be a formidable project!
