In the past several hours multiple tornadoes have touched down in Western and Central Mass. Springfield has been hit by two, receiving extensive damage. Boston is expected to be hit shortly, and everywhere is having extreme thunderstorms. My friends yard was just struck. These are the first tornadoes in Mass. in the past (VERY) many years.

It's the end of the world as we know it. Be careful up there.

Yup. My power went out for a few hours, trees falling everywhere, bombs bursting in air. Just joking. No bombs. But it was a pretty major storm we had... Our town gets microbursts all the time, but never anything big.

I watched the radar as the storms approched NYC. They didn't hit us, man we were lucky...

Oddly this is the first dry week in a long time for Pennsylvania. I'll be sure to enjoy it and get some things done, like trimming the hedges, weed-whacking, washing the car, etc.

Anyway, I've never heard of tornadoes that North, must have been a sight to see.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

We were on tornado watch around my place a couple weeks back... 70mph winds don't make for a fun time outside.

The weather here has been crazy. My aunt, she lives in Harrisburg PA, had a tornado warning every day for 4 or 5 days. I only had 1 or 2 warnings but one touched down in Bethlehem PA, about 20 miles away from me, close call. We also got some penny sized hail, didn't cause any serious damage though.

We only had three tornado warnings this year so far in Pittsburgh.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

i used to live in mass a few years ago yet i find it very strange that mass gets tornadoes. You need a very flat enviroment for a tornado and massachussetts isnt very flat and its also surrounded by mountains to the north and west as far as i am concerned. Geographically massachussetts and tornadoes dont add up. will anyone explain?

Tornado school isn't what it used to be. I'm not sure they even teach geography anymore.

It's words like "Massachusetts" that make me wonder why Americans simplify the word "colour" to "color".

It comes from the language of the Algonquian Indians, as many of the names in the northeast do. I shortened "colour" to "kula".

That's not just american, that can almost be mistaken for hawaiian.

Seriously, though, I've never seen a tornado, but watching vids of one ripping through a house definitely doesn't make me want to sit in my basement.

The closest I've seen is a funnel cloud. When I lived in Calgary, we got lots tornado warnings every summer, scares the crap out of you if you're relaxingly watching TV, then all of a sudden "BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP This is the Alberta Emergency Broadcast System! This is not a test!"

If you're trying to do a Boston accent, we say it like "cu-lah".
