Ive been trying to get some info on crossfireX but i havent found a clear answer so far so i thought someone here might know.

The first and the stupidest question is, is it possible to run more than 4 cards in crossfireX? as there are now boards with 7 pcie 16x slots these days, and it dosent really say anywhere how many cards can CrX support, just forum speculation on the internet.

i bet 4 is the limit right? It would be cool if you could run 7 cards in crossfire (i know all fullsized wont physically fit)

Another question i had is about quad crossfire:
First i read when SLI first came out like in 2004,if i think its a scam now (since 2 cards in sli cost and perform almost the same as a single more powerful card) Back then, running SLI mode, cut PCIE bandwidth from 16x to 8x Other than 2 cpus and doble the memory it was also almost like running just one of those cards.

^-well that was just some interesting backround info. Here is the question:

My friend (who i told about the above) told me its the same in quad crossfireX. Running 4 cards also cuts PCIe bandwidth by half. Basically I tried looking into this info on the internet, but didnt find anything that supported this info. so is this true or what?

and another question. During my search i stumbled upon bits of info that talked about crossfire with dualcore cards like HD4870x2 or 2gb 4670x2. (argument about physical size of those cards aside) does Quad CrossfireX refer to physically running 2x dualcore cards. or actually 4 cards (4x dualcore cards?) is it even possible to physically run 4 such dualcore cards? If yes does it do stuff like slice the PCIe bus by half like i explained earlier?

I believe drivers AND graphic cards themselves don't support more than 4way SLI/CFX. For dual core graphic cards I am not sure, but I guess you can run 4xdual core GPU.

Any ATI cards with X2 are literally two separate cards "glued" together - they appear in your OS as two separate cards and thus unfortunately they adhere to the 4 card limit. I think the limit actually changes depending on OS; XP is two and Seven is 4, though don't quote me on that!
