Hi Guys,
Been awhile.
My name is crighton and I used to play with DBpro years ago until and aweful crash took all my work and destroyed it

the Project was populous remake. I'm sure its still floating around here some where.

Anyway...... My son, now 12 wanted to create a game and start to learn how to program.
So we started this project together 2 weeks back.
Just thought I'd like to share our progress so far.

The game is in space, you have just built a huge mining space station on the edge of a universe somewhere.
Why? Becuase you found some weird elements in these asteriods and wanted to go explore and advance etc.....

The trouble is, you are running out of energy, so you came up with a design for a series of connecting solar arrays that catch any light source and turn it into energy. But becuase resources are also running out, some arrays dont work quite as expected, the ones that deploy the arrays give more power, then the other duds sitting there passing on energy.

And so.... Now energy is starting to grow its time to start mining these bad boys. Stick a mining platform on an asteriod and a little carrier ship will start its journey to harvest the resources.

Of course, this would be such a boring job, sitting, mining, sleeping, eating and mining..... BUT!
An alien presence is in this system, and they dont like unwelcome guests.
You guessed it, they start sending in their drones to take out the station. Luckily for us, there only capable of targeting one target at a time. So they always will try and destroy the station.

anyway..... so on and so forth, you build lasers they send more and you continue to upgrade your station.

Its very addictive for what it is. adding the research station, essential for station upgrades is a real pain, the energy that sucker uses is almost breath taking.

ok onto the rules.
Place arrays either connected to the station or to each other.
Place mining platforms on asteriods.
Place laser turrets around the station to protect from drones.
Beam laser (only on a lvl5 station) targets anything close enough, 5, 10, 50 ships at once. But with that power comes maximum energy drainage. be carefull when placing it.
Research station is for upgrading the station to a max level of 5. Huge energy drain.
resources are not unlimited, if an asteriod runs out, the carrier returns and parks in the station.

Lots of bugs still
we can build fighter drones but it isnt set up yet.
This game was inspired by the Flash game "The space Game"
and we wanted to make a multi player version of it.
so multiplayer is in there, just not ready yet. so please dont choose it.

You cannot actually win yet, but you sure can die. A level 3 station has the ability to repair itself(slowly). This eases the game for a little while, until multiple enemy's start sending constant wave after wave of ships. Get that beam out as soon as possible.

Oh and dont try and cheat by putting more than one miner per asteriod, the game will crash.

Games still alpha stage.

Good luck and Have fun.

PS. want to help with graphics and the like, let us know.
Sorry no screenshots either, game is 4 megs or less.

I would love to play it, but I can't run a 7z file. I've actually never heard of them. Is there anyway you can upload an exe application?

I know what you mean about a hard drive crash. That happened to me a couple of years ago. It stinks. I'm sorry

yrotate when you can spin?
God Bless!

Out of curiosity, what screen mode do you have it set to run in? I have a GeForce 9800 GT and a monitor that supports 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x720 and 1600x900, yet I am still getting the Runtime Error 1507: Display using 32 bit is not supported by available hardware. I don't think it really matters, but I'm on Win7 Pro. Lookin forward to trying it out. The Space Game is awesome.

FYI,When you use the command

Set Display Mode desktop width(), desktop hiehgt(),32,1

You must also make sure in the Properties Window of the editor
that the screen resolutions for the windowed and full screen are set to a resolution that will work for all GPUs.
Even thou you are over riding these by using Set Display Mode.
It seems that the compiler must write a line of code, into the exe that checks for these resolutions. If GPU can't handle it crashes.
We recently ran into this problem.

Yes, been working on choosing resolution.
its complete but adding more stuff.
Single player is 99.9999% complete.
Just cannot find 1 little bug.

When I find it I will post a working single player, then multi is just a couple of days away.

Its nothing spectacular, but it is addictive

cya's soon

Ok.
As promised
a new single player version in 2 screen modes
1680,1050,32 or 1280,800,32 the game will auto decide.
If it crashes, then you cannot use either.
or
Turn on compatability mode, turn off all extra visual effects and run as win xp service pack 2.
If it still crashes, then it's the resolution.
sorry

Updates:
Arrays now deploy fully (found the bug stopping them )
Once all mines are placed. Then there is no need to worry about resources again, unless you take too long

Tips:
Build a base fast, because the enemy is timed, or random

Hope you have fun, let me know how you go.

Multiplayer coming * 2 weeks.

Hard work, school and program

To add still:
Mines display different levels and ships no longer show their level.
balancing speeds between screen modes (mainly for multiplayer)

Cheers
Crighton & MoltenLava

PS.
still no screen shot, only 6 meg
