I wasn't the least bit skeptical. When I saw the ability to pre-order on Steam I thought "Sweet!". But the difference is I haven't been waiting for 13 years, like some say they have been. I've been keeping myself busy for 13 years =P

I always like to point that out to people.

Them: "I've waited X years for this."
Me: "Wow, you must've gotten really bored waiting."

Of course, I'm just being stupid and using their words too literally.


Anyway, it comes to the US next Monday. I'm playing Prototype and Terraria right now though.

Pre-ordered it on .... get this ... Amazon ... with .. get this ... super saver budget delivery. I don't care about playing it on day 1! I'm happy to wait 3 extra days.

So long as I eventually get to flash some cash at some boobs while saying "Shake it baby", it's all good.

I couldn't care less, but my son (Housewares on this forum) is obsessed, so I'll have to buy it for him eventually. He's currently playing Duke Nukem 3D for the 1000000th time, user made levels and everything.

Well some people placed a bet and won because they would have been sick if the game never came out after wasting their money...

I pre-ordered it and must wait until the 14th because im in america which is not fair

I can't wait to play it either. Got it off steam but wish I got the balls of steal edition. Money came sort and I only had about $50...

There is a few videos on youtube from people playing the demo. That should give you an idea on how the game is a little...

Same here. I'm not expecting much from the gameplay. I think it'll be a standard shooter. But what Duke Nukem is all about is stepping into the shoes of a complete sexist prick, who degrades everyone and is completely self obsessed and constantly drops one liners.

It's not about the gameplay, it's about the Duke!

The adverts for this game, past water shed, made me laugh so much. They've got a strip dancing girls with blurred areas and two school girls kissing...

In other words the game will most likly be aweful if there using sex sells approach... An its just ew, i mean who could get off on that :S ? its jsut polies and tri's. just ew.

It's not really banking on 'sex sells' - crudeness and stupidity is Duke Nukem. I'm certain those adverts will help sell copies too, but they're not like that just for marketing purposes.

Yes I too miss the boot. It's just more fun kicking stuff than punching it. They gotta return that...

I also dislike carrying two weapons at a time. I understand they meant it to be a tad more real here, but this is Duke freakin' Nukem...

@Phaelax: No, it's backwards. Duke, then Chuck. Usually Duke doesn't give enough of a rat's behind, so he lets Chuck have fun, then if Chuck can't do it, Duke only steps in to embarass him.

Hmmmm. You were right. Not a massive amount of shooting to start with. It picked up later. Played it for a couple of hours.

It's not bad. I'm currently in the alien hive bit, part 2. Not a big fan of alien sections in FPS games. The environments never do it for me. Overall though, it's a half decent game. Enjoyable enough.

SO, Duke is out on the PC here in the US, and so far I've actually been hearing mostly good things.

Maybe not Duke at his best, but it seems to be a pretty fun game. Not really MY kind of game, but I haven't seen anyone actually disappointed yet. I really don't think anyone who has been waiting all 15 years or however long it has been expected a game that could possibly live up to that development time.

Would be nice to see the builds they scrapped. I actually liked the look of the first build a lot.

That's 2.5 times the development period between Half Life 1 and 2. Half Life 2 earned 39 GOTYs. By that reckoning DNF will have to attain 98 GOTYs.

Bad timing when Skyrim's so close.

Who cares what others say. All that article has in it, is that reviewers gave it bad ratings. THey mention that every few sentences. I don't care what anyone else thinks about it, since I thought it was funny and a decent game, I am going to say that whenever anyone asks me about it.

In my humble opinion anybody that has ever played the original Duke Nukem and liked it should buy this new one despite the reviews. We've been waiting for this game to come out for far too long to not buy it because of a few bad reviews. The "only carry two weapons" thing is annoying but we're going to deal with it because we need Duke Nukem back in our lives.

I see it this way: COD et al. get ridiculous 99% scores. Those games are repetitive garbage. MW1 was rightfully praised but everything since then is a derivative re-run.

If those games get perfect (or OTT) scores, it stands to reason that those reviewers opinions of practically any other game is invalid, or at the very least, not entirely trustworthy

That's because they spend a fortune sending reviewers on luxury holidays to review the game, If they review it down, they don't get free holidays.

Whilst that is unfair, the COD games are quality games, and those that buy it are well aware of it's repetitiveness, It doesn't matter

I'm not ragging on COD as a franchise here, I'm just saying there's a huge disparity in the way things are scored. A lot of games get hugely exaggerated scores but yet we trust them when they deal out hugely negatively scores. I'm trying to make the point that if they can't cap the upper numbers for what are only average/good games, how can we trust them to watch the lower score range accurately either?
