Okay i had the 3ds since it came out. Well i was charging it and and i noticted that it had been past 3.5 hours or however long it takes but the charging light still is on so i left it till the morning and it was still on. i forgot to mention that i did download the big system update and i was on the internet adn i found out that it could be caused by the update and it was working fine before this and im thinking about contacting Nintendo about this. do you guys have any suggestions on it?

It's a problem with the update... I just hope that the battery isn't charging the whole time, because that could cause it to explode (depends on what battery it uses). Though I don't think nintendo would be stupid enough to have the charging circuit programmed... I'd expect it to be hard wired, and the charging light being software.

I think it's more a issue of cost - it would bump the price up a hell of a lot if each DS had an FPGA in it for the charging circuit!
