I've been a BETA tester for this for a little while.

http://www.123dapp.com/

It's Autodesk's version of Google Sketch-up. Only a little more based on the actual Autodesk engineering software like Inventor. You can model individual parts and also assemble those small parts into 1 large assembly. There are also multiple export options like sat and stl which have great collision detection in FPSC when converted to "x". (I always use sat and never have a problem). The only thing it does not do is texturing, but you can use lith-unwrap or one of the others. This is still in the BETA stage so hopefully there will be some more features put into it. This is great for people used to CAD based packages.

Just an example of what can be done with this type of software. I designed this compressor in about 50 hours. It has 3500 individual parts and is around 107' long.

Autodesk Philosophy #1 - go big or go home.

Autodesk Philosophy #2 - Add more features. Then add more. Then keep adding features till people have to upgrade their computers. Then add more.

Our new subscriptions of Inventor came with 3D max, Maya, Mudbox, Alias, and about 5 others. They used to be installed with 9 DVD's but it got too big for that. Now they come on 64 gig flash drives.

There is no program that will EVER tell me what it can and can't be used for. See attached. You challenge, I answer. I made these today. They are yours. A program is only limited by your imagination.

I'm not a great modeler and I was trying to make a mouse(computer) using that program. I can't figure out how to get the middle rolling part on it.

Here is a pic:

Can anyone help? Thanks.

So if you had less cups of tea then you could of done it in under 40 hours.

just kidding. But thanks for letting us know about this software, as i don't like Skethup as everything just looks to cartoonish/paper drawn.
And their is no decent export unless you fork out £530 for somthing that can only do half a job, i would rather donate £530 to blender foundation, at least their plugins and files are supported throughout ofther packages, just like Autodesk, Well to a certain degree..
Well just download it as i typed and of to play with it.

Once again thanks for link

I think that I found a bug. When trying to use the "Split" feature I would pic a face but afterwards it would say to pic a slit tool, but the options didn't show up... Anyone else have this issue?

Also, is it possible to sketch on a model that wasn't sketched up?

Thanks.

@2beastmode4u

If you made you model around the starting origin, you should be able to select the origin plane that runs longways through your mouse. You can then start a new sketch on the plane and draw a circle where the wheel would be. extrude the circle the width of your mouse wheel and add a fillet to both sides if you so desire. If there is a pocket on your mouse you can draw a circle and do a subtractive extrusion before drawing the wheel to give it the "recessed" appearance.

If your making a game model of that mouse, be careful with the fillets. they will add thousands of poly's. That's why most people don't view this type of software for games. If left unchecked the polys can grow very very quickly.

I can totally believe it if you found a bug. It's still pretty much BETA.
