So Windows bugged me for a little while about getting Service Pack 1, and so when i had time, i let it install the SP. Bet ever since i let it install the SP, my computer just doesnt perform the way it use to. Originally, the CPU usage would not go below 100%. I restarted 2 times and still wouldnt go below 70% CPU usage. I decided to run a virus scan, which turned up some things that have given me problems in the past, so i let it remove them. My computer seemed fine for a day or two, then i noticed the Aero animation when minimizing, maximizing, opening, and closing windows just wasnt smooth as it usually was. So i let AdAware do a full system scan and it found and removed some stuff, but still, the animations arent smooth, games dont run well at all (they normally get max fps on this computer), and the weird thing is, cpu usage is back to normal... So i have absolutely no idea what is going on, so what do you guys think i should do??

Here are my specs if they help:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit (obviously now with SP 1)
Dual Core Intel Processor @ 2.1Ghz and 64 Bit.
4Gb Ram
64Mb VRAM (not much but this is a laptop, so i borrows from regular RAM and thus behaves like much more VRAM)

Just a side note, i feel as if i am always asking you guys for help, but i never return any. I just cant seem to find any place where i would be helpful, so please forgive me!!

Can you uninstall the service pack?

I will definitely try that! I will report back here with the results...

Edit 1:
Ok the uninstall progress bar is just sitting there even though it indicates its done but it is uninstalling!! Also, after doing research, apparently CPU usage is affected by SP 1 on my particular version of Windows; Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit. So hopefully this does the trick!

Edit 2:
Haha, i uninstalled it and it appears to be working smoothly! Lets just hope it stays that way!

Edit 3:
I take that back. It wont go below 100% right now and the fan is going crazy. I can hardly type now!

Edit 4:
Maybe it's just doing some more stuff now? Maybe it will calm down in a bit.

Edit 5:
It's like Twitter with all these edits! So i restarted my comp with no luck, so i just now looked in Task Manager, and what do you know, under the processes tab, teatimer.exe was had a 66 under cpu. Now i looked up teatimer.exe online and apparently it's bad?? Is that correct or is it an important system file??

Hmmm... Maybe it's overheating or something of that nature? If you don't have it already, try CPUID Hardware Monitor.

It's definitely not overheating, it's very cool to the touch. But that does seem like a cool program so i will likely get it! What do you think about teatimer.exe? Apparently it's from Spybot Search and Destroy, and apparently it will create a pop up if it finds something bad, but i never has!! Should i stop the process?

I appreciate your effort in helping me heyufool1!

I also have Spybot but I don't have the teatimer running. I think it just warns you when there is a change to the registry, so I didn't think it was worth the memory/processing power that it takes. I don't know what the problem could be though, unless you have a lot of extra processes running.

Well i stopped it with really no difference.... So maybe that isnt it; currently the CPU seems normal but Aero animations are choppier than the ocean:/ I do seem to have lots of processes, anywhere from 92 to 140! Usually within 92 to 100, but it does vary.

Edit:

I have a good lot of very annoying HP soft/crapware that seem to have a good amount of processes going, i might remove all but the essential HP software. HP software really annoys me; when it wants to notify me of anything, my whole computer freezes!

I clean my computer very aggressively, Windows 7 SP 1 and it runs great. Stuff I do and might recommend here (restart between steps):
1.) Go through your list of installed programs and uninstall stuff you don't need (if you never did this after getting the computer there is most likely a lot).
2.) Start -> Run -> msconfig (type it in). Go to the Startup tab. Google anything that looks non-essential and disable it if you can. My Dell came with a crapton of webcam and online backup stuff I never touch, and Adobe distributes loads of auto-update and quickstart stuff that I rarely use, so that's all disabled. You should be able to do this pretty aggressively, I don't think you can screw anything up too badly here.
3.) Get CCleaner and clean up Recycle Bin and Temporary Files at the very least. You could also do a registry scan while you're in there. I've heard that cleaning up the registry can be a solution to this specific problem, though I'm not sure I buy it.

Yeah, overall, clean up the crapware, especially if you've never done it, and you download a lot of stuff (as I'm guessing from the number of virus issues you seem to have).

1. I will definitely do this.

2. I went to msconfig a bit earlier and i lower the processes down to 88, so thats a start.

3. I will do this!

Quote: "and you download a lot of stuff"
Lol i do!

Edit:
Haha, this worked!!!!! I removed all the programs i didnt need and that made a huge diff itself. Then, i got CCleaner and that program is sweet! It says it takes a second to run and it doesnt lie! Thank you BMacZero!!

Yeah, I was thinking of doing a full clean of my computer (non-essential crap) but never got up to doing it haha. I've got a disc from PC GAMER magazine that has some cool tools.

PRO(?)TIP: Does your desktop look messy? Make a folder called "Junk" and put everything in there. Take out only the essentials.

That's not a bad idea. My desktop's the worst and I've just gotten accustomed to not really using it. I use the start menu mostly.

I would say my desktop is relatively clean, but CodeSurge likes to put 3 or 4 completely unnecessary files on my desktop every time i run it... But i dont run it too much these days as i have been getting more into electronics...

Edit:
Is it bad to allow my computer to sleep all night?? I did last night as i do almost all nights and today the animations are somewhat choppy (not as bad as they were, but still) so i was just curious, is it bad to let the computer sleep to long? it always seems my computer never performs as well after letting it sleep for a while. Maybe i should hibernate instead?

Dunno, I let it sleep all night once and I didn't notice any changes. Maybe it depends from computer to computer.

installing service pack updates on a used OS is not a very good idea. The service pack updates are written with just the windows, and maybe some MS software in mind. When an update is installed, it dosent know what programs/software you have that might conflict with the updated version of the OS, or how messy your registry is. So installing updates on top of windows that has been used for a while, and components / registrymodified over time, Good chance it will cause problems withing the OS. Either install service pack updates on a clean- new windows, Or the best way is to just get a copy of SP2 and install the entire thing whole all at once. Its much safer than building it up to SP2 piece by piece via updates.

dont hate people who rip you off, cheat and get away with it, learn from them

Oh I think mine was probably worse a week ago. I use Fences and typically leave the desktop hidden. When I turned it on one day my entire 1920x1200 was filled. I began moving and organizing things. Finally a clean desktop, until I viewed the desktop from file manager and saw a few hundred more things. Stupid second monitor, I had so many icons it began filling up my other screen!

So my computer just isnt working right. All of the problems i have had before i still have today and they are much worse, i just cant think of anything to do but re-install Windows. I asked my dad and he says i might want to just go back to a restore point instead and go back to the way my computer was when it was brand new? What do you guys think i need to do, re-install (i dont have a copy of Windows, only on my computer) or go back to a restore point or do something else? My computer is totally unusable the way it is now, CPU always 100%, i type a whole sentence and it doesnt actually appear on the screen for a few seconds, and all of that when i have only about 80 processes running..

Time for you to witness the real beauty of windows 7.

Hit the start orb, and type

"Create a system repair disk"

Open that program, stick a disk in the drive, burn and voila! Reinstall windows like that.

I don't really know what to call it, so I just go along with what everybody else seems to call it. I liked start.

It's the magical Start Orb. It is magical because without it, use of Windows computers could not exist. (or be as fun)

So about that create a system repair disk thingy, would that essentially just create a disk that would have the Windows OS and i could just install that overwriting the old Windows installation? Would that save my important stuff or would it just put my computer back to day one? (that would be ok-i would back up everything i need before doing it)

Edit:
So i did some research on the repair disk thing and it doesnt exactly look like what i want, and i have figured out how to do a full reinstall of Windows so time to start back things up!! Great fun, great fun! Wish me luck!

Good luck. You can indeed run a full reinstall from a recovery disk. Remember to back your files up.
