You finished it! Good job! Giving this version a try...

EDIT: I get "ERROR: incompatible version", and then "application not approved, now quitting".

I get ERROR: Client agent not running, then "application not approved, now quitting"

I'm running Vista, SP2.

EDIT: Do we have to have an App Up account to play?

This is because his game is built for AppUp and he forgot to comment out the authentication code.
I played the WIP, great fun!

EDIT: Or he didn't forget but you do need a netbook to play it.

Thanks for pointing that out

It is now replaced with the non-AppUp version, free to play, no strings attached!

That works. Fun and cute!

Two things...

The menu system is very sluggish, with pauses of 5, 10, up to 20 seconds before it reacts to a mouse-over or mouse-click. The ads seem to load pretty quickly though.

The game is installed in Program Files/DEVink/PileEmUp, but there is also another folder installed called PileEmUp that seems to be a duplicate of the game files and bin folder. Is this needed?

I'm fixing this now. I have been implementing energy-saving code when the menu is idle, and it is not quite right yet. When I had the AppUp verification problem I replaced the msi with this not-quite-finished code.

Strange, I will check this out. I must have got something wrong in the installer. Thanks for letting me know

Very fun! I noticed just a couple bugs, in addition to that slow-menu bug:

-Twice, on hard difficulty, after I finished and was supposed to enter my name, it would not register any of my clicks. The buttons popped up and down, but my name would not type. Neither would it let me click the check mark or the "x". I had to quit.

-Even if your tower is crumbling, once it gets to the last few seconds it does not seem to matter; it still retains the score. Likewise, if you were to add another car on top at that point, it would ignore it when scoring.

Ahh, you finished it, well done Batvink!!! It plays really well and I like the new menu style

I'll try not to go overboard with the highscores like last time

That is now fixed. I'm trying to get the game certified by Intel, when I've perfected it I'll be writing an article for the newsletter on how to get the Intel badge for your game

Quote: "it would not register any of my clicks"

strange, I'll have to look into that one.

OK, I can put a check in to ensure that doesn't happen, thanks

I still haven't beaten your scores even though I've played it to death!

I know the feeling, I let one of my friends play Radar Invaders and now I can't beat his score!!! I will one day...maybe.

installed and played fine the first time through (easy mode). ranked on the hi score table, clicked "empty" space to get back to menu and chose play to try again but was greeted with the following box2d error:

otherwise, fun game and will play some more once bugs are squashed.

ps: would be nice to include date on the high score table

add: 2nd time launching and after same sequence above, it re-played without issue. then again to high-score table and attempted 3rd play brought the same error above. so, sometimes repeatable :/

Thanks. I can't believe that 200+ plays before going live didn't reveal this issue!

Quote: "ps: would be nice to include date on the high score table"

The date is in the database table (to order by first achieved where there is a tie), and the high score chart is HTML based so I can make this change quite easily. Thanks for the idea.

[EDIT] Nice stack!!!

Batvink, if you want to know the secret as to how I get high scores, I'm the kind of guy that would try to put the oil tanker on top of Virtual Nomad's pile up, and then the jeep on top of the oil tanker.

I also got an error, didn't take a screeny. It was the same "Array out of bounds blah blah blah" error I mentioned in you WIP thread.

I think the error that I told you about (where you can't enter your name) happens if you press escape and then press enter to quit in the middle of a round, and then start a new round after that (not sure though).

@ Leo877 I believe the program accesses an online database for the highscores so basically yes to your question.

Found the bug. It's in Box2D, Diggsey has updated the plugin and will be available soon. Yay!

Woow, that much downloads already? After just one week? Hehehhe, awesome! You could have earned some money if it wasn't free, BatVink.

Its a great game, though. Very addictive too. Wish I could find the right formula to get 'em piled up really high.

Nice job, BatVink!

Cheers

A couple of successes for this game. Firstly after 2 weeks, it has topped 200 downloads

Secondly, Pile Em Up has received the "Enhanced for Core" badge from Intel (see signature banner). I can now display the badge when promoting and marketing my game. I'll be sharing more details about this soon and how you can do the same for your games.
