Mine's here: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=158317&b=13
Nothing much to see, just a cry for help with cartography shop (which I stopped using soon after that anyway ).
So what was your first post on these forums? What were the "noob days" like when you first joined? Was it hard to settle in, or rather easy?
I suppose I had a fairly good intro to the forums. At first I spent quite a bit of time in my 3D modelling thread (I should keep on doing that, actually ), then I just sort of stuck to the Geek Culture boards and got to meet all the awesome people on here

So answer the question! ANSWER IT RIGHT NOW!!

Another cry for help What an exciting time that was for me, new to programming and all.

First thread? I'm pretty sure I posted in other threads long before I made my own, and there's no way I'd remember which thread I posted in first.

Here's my first thread, asking for help, but since I never replied I probably figured it out myself and forgot all about having ever made it: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=16469&b=1

I joined to ask questions about FPS Creator, but when I joined it wasn't really moderated and I wasn't actually brave enough to post my question as a lot of the users at the time were incredibly aggressive to anyone who posted but hadn't read every single post to see if it had been answered before (some might say not much has changed )

I'll have to do the same as Plystire and post my first thread as I don't have a clue what my first post was: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=74436&b=28

I think the most embarrasing part is that I had misspelled sentence in my sig.

My first 4 posts were code snippets So I guess you could say I've been helping people since day one. The weird thing is my first post doesn't come til 3 weeks after I created my account.

I guess this would be my first post asking for help.

My first thread was a WIP: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=147808&b=36

For anyone who's curious about what happened to Swordfight: I have given up on it. I have so little free time nowadays that I am forced to choose only one hobby. And playing music will always take precedence over programming, I'm sorry. However, I have talked to my son (who is a far better programmer than I am anyway) and he has expressed interest in making the game for me. If that were to happen, I would only be credited with the idea for the gameplay and the story, which is fine with me. He's the one who helped me come up with half the ideas for the Fantasy world I was creating for the game, so it's already half his anyway.

I still love this forum, even if I don't make games anymore, and I don't plan to leave any time soon.

Shame it got locked by an over-enthusiastic Mod before I'd had a chance to test and report on people's generally helpful suggestions.

Well, it's not your most glamorous moment but it is kind of funny . Were you able to evict the 2356 viruses in the end?

I'm 95% sure this is my first post. I posted twice because I didn't understand that I was on post approval at the time.

[edit]Oh yeah, my first thread was AGK source code but since that is quite boring I'll throw in my first cry for help.

I doubt mine can be found unless a backup of the forum before this (introduced on my joined date) has been kept. Think I joined in 2000 sometime and quite some time later I posted a help request asking how to roll a ball correctly in 3D. DBC at the time required some decent extra code to get it working correctly. Dr Avalanche (anyone remember him?) was a bit of a guru at the time and helped me out (he had a marble madness type game that was *the* DB game at the time). Although, I think on purpose, a small part of the code was wrong that I had to debug and fix before it all worked. Nice touch.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

I know when I first joined I didn't post right away and just read messages for a bit. I wanted to get the feel of the place and learn what was acceptable behavior before posting anything.

In the earliest post I could find I was encouraging a guy named Nytmayre to buy Darkbasic Pro. I mentioned just ordering it myself the night before.

How do you find your first post?
Clicking on 'view all threads by this user' only shows the last 100 and that stops 4 years before I joined.

These are good threads (some rather hilarious ), just goes to show that we're all noobs at some point.

I went back to a page that was close to my join date (in every area I frequented) and clicked on all messages that were marked as read till I found one the earliest one I posted in. There might be an earlier one but I gave up searching after an hour.

That "view all threads by this user" only shows threads you start so even that isn't really accurate because it doesn't track all posts in other threads. Mine only shows 13 posts (the earliest is 9-4-05) because I normally don't make my own threads. The actual first post (the one I found) was on 6-13-05 (14 days after joining).

I did a little searching for you and found this:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=13100&b=7

I think it's safe to say it's your first post... because it's the same day you joined.

I haven't found mine yet, I bet it's something really uninteresting though.

Searching reminded me of a lot of great users we don't see any more...TDK, Virtual Nomad...also people like indi and Drew G . TDK was the greatest help when I started DBP.

It must of been one of my "gone" times 'cause I don't remember Indi going nuts and leaving.

It must of been part of this (a locked thread of his where he talks about leaving):
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=113433&b=2

But the last post in that was August and he posted again in October:

I saw Virtual Nomad post the other day but I haven't seen TDK around for ages now. When I first started out, TDK posted quite a lot and I learnt heaps from him.

I don't know, his website link doesn't take you to his website anymore. It takes you to tdkman.com but it isn't the same website he had up a while ago. I did a couple of searches on his DarkSprites project but any promising leads didn't evolve into anything. I really hope he comes back.

There was a really funny post somewhere on the DBC boards... A guy wanted to show his tycoon game thingy and called himself "binary moon", but the game was just some really crappy text-based input/output.

*looks for thread*
