For a while now, i wanted to attempt making my own custom notebook case. My main problem in this is finding the right notebook for this project. So for this i need a notebook which has a simple interior design so it would be easier to adapt the notebook parts to the custom case. And it will also save me time and effort. The acer i have now (took it apart many times) meets the requitements of simple interior setup. I am just wondering if anyone here also takes apart laptops and can possibly reccomend me other notebooks with less complicated insides that i can gut for this project. (preferably a notebbok which hardware has a good kick to it, something with a dedicated graphics card)

Now why do i want to create a custom case for a notebook?

Well over the last 8 years i went trough about 7 notebooks. Every single notebook i had that was made after 2003 ended up breaking. Not the hardware tho, i am talking about notebook cases made of crap-plastic and bad quality parts. stuff like lcd hinges breaking, cracks that led to serios problems, DC in jack getting loose (i fixed a lot of those) stuff like that. and i am really sick of this and want to do something about it. I want a notebook that will last me more than 2 years and can take some beating. I could buy a ruggadized notebook but those are pretty weak in terms of hardware and expensive (generall all military grade notebooks have crappy hardware because they dont really need anything fancy just as long as it works and can take beating)

another reason for this project is... because its cool! I do want to attempt to build something like that. I did a similar thing before for my20gb iriver mp3 player when the battery wore out and i couldnt find a replacement, instead i made it work off a PSP battery. To make it fit in there i had to design a custom case for it and my mp3 player turned out to look like some military grade black metal brick the size of a 90s cellphone. I thought that was cool, so i want to try doing something like that with a notebook.

also i have a thing for exclusive/uniqe stuff, and they are all rare and expensive, so sometimes i try to make my own.

Laptops are a pain to pull apart... I needed a sledge hammer to get out the RAM from my old HP laptop What if you just buy the seperate parts?

well after taking laptops apart for a while, you get better at it. But what do you mean by seperte parts? if you mean bying laptop parts? well it will be hard to find all the parts i need to get a fully working one if at least something as small as an lcd inverter isnt compatible, laptop wont work, id rather buy the whole laptop that way i get all the parts i need
