Having a penchant for sniper games (still play SNIPER ELITE) -- and since I've been developing a sniper game -- I played through SGW the other day. I was impressed. Yes, there are a few issues I had with gameplay and a couple graphical glitches, but for the most part it's a great "sniper shooter" with a strong, tense atmosphere. Having played some earlier CITY INTERACTIVE games, I never expected this title to be so good. In fact, I didn't expect it to be good at all.

I play almost every war or battle-related game that comes down the pike, and this was a better SP experience for me than COD:BO (loud, obnoxious, and having no relationship with reality), BF:BC2 (fast but weightless storyline), or MOH2010 (topical but not really exciting). I'm also impressed with how the multiplayer maps are setup, but it's been hard to find players... too bad there aren't more players out there.

Has anyone else played this? Like it? Hate it?

Anyone else played this?

It's a game that's tempted me, as I'd prefer the...I'm reluctant to use the word "hardcore," but the greater focus on skilled placing of shots.

Didn't like the game.
I liked the bullet cam. And the skilled placing of shots.
But the story, game mechanics, and engine are relatively crap.

The developers seem to have gotten the same idea given its been out for around a year now, and have moved SGW:2 over to CryENGINE 3.

THAT, will be something worth playing.

Regards,

Max

I think of all the sniping, ever, I like Bulletstorms' sniper rifle the most.

Oh yeh, steering the bullet was so cool. I remember something similar in UT3...

I'm playing on the PS3 and it looks like many issues of earlier releases have been fixed. The only serious complaint I've had so far is bad MP networking -- I've been unable to get into a ranked MP match.

As for the engine, I've enjoyed other Chrome4 titles like CALL OF JUAREZ. The engine might not be the most advanced, but the product is still good... and playable. I'm much more dismayed by COD's adherence to Unreal. To me that engine is antiquated -- left far in the dust by Frostbite(2)... But in the end they're all AAA...

"Hard" mode seems to factor windage and bullet-drop.

@ CoffeeGrunt. I expect this title to be very affordable very soon (SGW2 isn't far behind).

I still prefer SNIPER ELITE, but SGW plays pretty well IMHO. Any game that emphasizes stealth and bullet placement over COD-type "spray and pray" mechanics has my interest. I wish SOCOM 4 (which should have emphasized the same in a squad format) would have been this good.

I traded LA NOIRE for SGW. I expected to rue the day I made that exchange, but I'm actually really glad I did!

**** UPDATE ****

Ok, so I cannot get into a multiplayer server, and I have tried creating a server with no success -- no one else entered the game. I'm seeing servers with people playing, but can't seem to get in. This is aggravating.

I've contacted City Interactive.
