I noticed the other day there was a Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Anticipation Thread, and no offense to that game but I think Geek Culture deserves better.

Are you getting it? What do you know about it?

I have had everyone and their pony telling me that Arkham Asylum was amazing. Sadly I never got round to playing it. Might grab a copy and give it a look before deciding on this new one.

I'm with CoffeeGrunt, I havn't played Arkham Asylum either. I keep meaning to pick it up, I just havn't got round to it yet. I'm curious though, in your opinion what is it that makes it such a great game?

I looooved Arkham Asylum. I think it was because it just did so many things that weren't mind blowing but worked well. Simple combat system, flight is easy, the stealth works really well. And also no silly restrictions - batarangs are unlimited, you can blow up mooks with the explosive gel, you can fly at any time. SO naturally I'm looking forward to this.

I just purchased Arkham Asylum as part of the Square-Enix pack through the Steam Summer Sale. I had played the demo earlier, and I have been quite impressed by the game's graphics and presentation so far. I'll look forward to hearing about the sequel, I haven't heard many updates so far. So please, post any links you have on the development.

I anticipate that it's going to suck.

I liked the first one, it really had a decent comic book feel to it without being cheesy. Luke Skywalker is a great joker. But I seriously think Adam West should team up for a Batman game of his very own, come on, it would seriously be epic.

Probably won't get it on release because there's only a handful of games out there that I would pay £40+ for. I got Arkham Asylum for £12.

It's good because, like they've said, it's so simple. It works. Everything flows, and you can be a ninja and go the stealth route but if you get caught you can still beat the crap out of them, yet you don't seem overpowered.

And in the sequel it's more of an open world. You can hijack vehicles, it's been called a nerdy Just Cause 2. There's more kinds of in air combat, one thing I'm happy about is that the Riddler is making a much bigger appearance then he did in the previous game.

And riddle me this, they are bringing Hugo Strange who made the villain Bane through his various chemicals. Bane was in the last game (and fun fact is appearing in the new Batman movie) but will it come back, following Hugo Strange? And at the end there was a teaser where Killer Croc/Scarecrow/Bane grab a box of fluid that basically turn you into a giant monster ?(like Joker in the final battle) but will it be relevant to the story in this game? Not much on the plot's been released.

Some quotes from this month's GameInformer:

"The Riddler's Puzzles are going to lead to much deadlier situations this time around."

"Catwoman also has a unique set of tools for solving puzzles and aiding in battle, such as a whip and claws... she has her full loadout from the start."

Sadly though,

"Catwoman is not playable via co-op mode"

Also, they talked about a video game coming out that will be a multiplayer oriented first person shooter where you are either on a team of people dressed like Batman or a team of people dressed like the Joker. The art style looks incredibly silly and there is obviously cliche classes. The thank, the girl, the soldier (from TF2) like class, and the somewhere in between. We know nothing if there are more classes, or how the classes work, just that you pick from a selection of primaries and secondaries, so it can't be too much like TF2. The publishers are the ones who made the first two FEARs, so this may be good. But the art style is so silly I'm not sure how this will turn out, it looks like it's going to be the kind of game you see drop from 50 to 20 on Steam in a week. Probably a Christmas game, because even though we only have the picture and some info, it doesn't look like the kind of game that would take that long to make and publish. I might want it for my birthday or something, but first let me look at the demo.

As soon as Catwoman was announced people were suspecting co-op, but it was ultimately said Catwoman will not be part of any co-op feature. Technically though, they haven't ruled out the idea of co-op that may involve two Batmans or a Batman and an aid, finding clues, etc.

I can't even get past Arkham Asylum yet, so I don't think it's a go for me. I'm saving up for either Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3 Fault Line.

What parts? The puzzle parts or the combat parts? Honestly, and I know people say this about anything but really, it's worth it to keep going and finish. Even when my brother watched the ending on Youtube then again on the game when he finished, he said it was so much more dramatic when you had just fought the guy.

Quote: "don't think it's a go for me"

Most of the changes are making it easier, the only much more difficult part are the puzzles left by the Riddler which according to GameInformer:

"...incredibly hard..."

"...much more dangerous..."

"...not the same Riddler we saw in the first game..."

"...completely optional..."

"...really only for Batman fans...."

Or you could just let people like what they like and not be so arrogant?

I'm not a fan of COD or whatever I either, but jesus, this attitude that a person has no taste because they do like it is really rubbing me the wrong way.

I was trying to make a joke, but reading the post again I realize I was going way too far. I'm very sorry, but I thought the deep breath thing was enough. It wasn't. I own five Call of Duty games, and I've heard great things about Battlefield. I do think he should pick up Arkham City first because of how great it's seeming, and I do think the new COD is a rehash but I had no intention of offending anybody. I'm getting MW3, so I am at no state to even joke about that.

I'm stuck at the part when you go into the medical facility and have to save a couple doctors. There's 5 of them, one of me. They have M4s, I have a boomarang. I'll try beating it once I finish Assassin's Creed II though.

So it's easy, hehe.

No offense, but really? Your batman.

If you can do this you can kill some guards.

Also, don't be afraid to get detected. You can take on 2, 3-4 if your good, guards at once even when they are armed. The trick is to get them when everyone else is so far away by the time they get there you're gone or they ones you were fighting are dead so now you can beat them up!

I just decided to crack, no bad vibes man

Yeah, this is pretty much my only criticism of the game. Nothing is scary for Batman. After that bit where Scarecrow says 'You've ingested enough toxin to kill ten men' I was like, well yeah, he's Batman. It's meant to be a big dramatic whoo moment, but it falls flat because you're Batman.

HOWEVER

I notice that in the posters for this new game, Batman has a nosebleed, and they've said that the Joker isn't ill just because of the events of the last game. So that bodes well, sounds like Batman'll have something a bit more biological to wrestle with.

I haven't played the first one, but I've seen a complete playthrough on YouTube and it looks fun. I doubt I could even run it at minimum settings on my PC though, so I've never tried playing it.

I can play it on my laptop on minimal setting but it lags on elaborate cutscenes terribly. I've only gotten to the Poison Ivy boss battle, then I figured it was hopeless. I also have for PS3, and of course it runs smoothly on that. Try downloading the demo on Steam.

How is that bad? You play as superhumans in so many games, most of which are much worse then this game. Especially in gameplay, and I don't know how, but you can get caught being stealthy but still get away from you awesome combat skills and still seem not too overpowered.

Biological? How could a nosebleed be biological? But I think I get what your saying, they are definitely making Batman more 'man' in this game, if you know what I mean. Which I like. And in combat you sometimes make mistakes, like slipping and knocking out the one you want to take hostage, when you meant to hit one of the goons that don't matter. This is one of the reasons Arkham City is so much better.

It sounds like there's gonna be a virus story or something. I don't know. May have changed since I last heard

Well, I think that is my point. The Killer Croc level, for example, is obviously meant to be scary but it's just not because you're Batman. And everytime you make a mistake in combat or something, I always think hang on, that shouldn't have happened, I'm meant to be Batman, Batman doesn't screw up. But there's no way to fix that problem, of course

It wasn't meant to be horror, but it was meant to keep you on your toes, which it does until you figure out how to beat him.

Then that's you, not the game. If you say that you can never make mistakes because your Batman, like you said, they can't fix that.

Well yeah, but you don't beat him with any particular difficulty, you just lob a batarang at him. Because you're Batman.

I see your point I still think it would be good to put Batman in slightly more precarious situations though.

I ignored this before but recently, I've actually thought better things about the Wii U. I saw the new Zelda came coming out for it, and good god that's better then half of the PS3 games out. I might actually have to pick up the Wii U, and Batman might actually had come out for Wii U, but the Wii U won't be out until late next year. But yeah, with great graphics and unique gameplay, I would like to see it.

Without the *s.

You have to take the video code out, e.g., http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfJR6sAo0CU becomes LfJR6sAo0CU.

So [*youtube]LfJR6sAo0CU[/*youtube] without stars is

Yeah, I hated it until I saw it's graphic capabilities. Now they have my attention, so I might have to do some research.

I'm so happy, they are making a new Super Smash Bros for 3DS (wippee) and Wii U (half wippee), but that means it won't come out until at least mid to late 2012 when the Wii U comes out. And I hope they don't make the mobile version a crappy, 'unique' version like most games do. Especially Sega. But I'm so interested to find out the characters and stages and story situation and new mods and GOOD GOD I LOVE THAT SERIES. My first thought was "Oh yeah, now I remember why I have a 3DS."

All the in-game footage for the WiiU of third party games were grabbed from 360/PS3, so I wouldn't think anyone can really judge its graphical prowess just yet.

But they are not all third party games. We got a glimpse at some of the games that come with the console, as well as the new Zelda. The graphics have clearly been advanced.
