On Tuesday 5th of July, I came out of work to find that my bicycle had been stolen. I had it chained to the schools bike shed where I work at, but when I came out it had been possibly cut with bolt cutters, one clean cut and left hanging off of the rack.

I told the school and they looked through the cctv footage and later found a hoodie walk into the school and casually ride out on my bike after having cut the lock off.

I then phoned the police and told them what had happened etc. I had to phone them up a further 2 times before I got a crime reference number from them, which is pathetic (taking 2 days to sort it out).

At lease now I can fill out the claim form and send it off to get a replacement bike or funds for a replacement.

All this days before my birthday too (which is today), just makes it really annoying knowing some scummy kid is either riding around on my bike or has sold it for next to nothing to fund their drug use. I hate chav scum!

It happens mate. I haven't got a bike good enough that anyone would want to steal but I do ride it every day. I'd advise you get a rather thick lock next time.

I had a caravan stolen from me once, it was probably our fault for leaving it at the camp site, but we came back a week or so later and it was gone.

well i once had a big collection of original cds that i bought from over seas on the net on amazon and ebay. which were mainly Initial D OST soundtracks and other anime ost like Naruto. one day i moved with the family and then bam someone broke into my car and stole nearly all my cd. including my Kanye West cd, but luckily they didn't see my mike jones cd.i lost more than 500 bucks. the cop didn't care and he said and i quote "If we see enough reported stolen things in the area we might consider sending out more patrol out here." they didn't even bother with anything else. after that i still never got them. something about the local cops that they never care. it's all about the money and just go home. homicides, theft, and anything else doesn't bother them or make them care. that's how i lived it and saw it.

it takes them over one hour to come to anything like the time some maniac tried to rob me i called the cops and said to them that there's a guy who's trying to rob me and he's violent as well so come quickily they said "Please stay on hold.....(one minute later) so question one....what is your name?" then i was like "no time there is a man with a weapon and he's trying to rob me." then they said "sir there's nothing to worry so question one...what is your name?" i had to gave in so after like 15 minutes worth and luckily i was smart enough to have all the neighbors and got enought ppl to the point where robbing me in front of dozens was not good and still i was on hold for another 15 minutes. after that they said they will send out a dispatch unit. after one hour they arrived and said "where did he headed?" "east bound sir. by this time he's already gone. i wouldn't know where by now." i said. after another 15-20 minutes worth of the same question they just left and told me before they left that "promise me one thing and don't ever let me see you become like them." I replied "No wonder the world turns to crime."

I'm always swissolo. Funny how the first time I googled it and... just me. Then overtime all these frauds started flowin' in. People might have been able to think of Quik on their own, maybe, but swissolo, 2 S's? I've been directly copied So I think of them as "wannabe-swissolos" I feel like quik would be a good name to steal though I don't know, it's just... who knows!

That's terrible SpyDaniel... Happy Birthday!

One time I was in a serious relationship with a girl with 4 kids. I brought my NES, Super NES and all my games for each system (about 40 games) over to their house so the kids could play games. When were were out one night somebody broke in and stole every single TV in the house (4 of them), the Super Nintendo, and only took the Nintendo games but left the Super Nintendo games.

So I was left with all my Super NES games and the Nintendo. I eventually bought another Super Nintendo so I could play the games the stupid crooks left behind. The Nintendo itself had a game in it... Superman... my suckyest game... wish it was Blaster Master instead (my favorite at the time).

That happened to me once too back when I played Ultima Online. Somebody named a character "Grog Gruesmacker". Whoever it was they lived on the Ice Isle close to me and they were a PK.

No one's ever stolen anything from my house, but they did break in and spray their name on the hall wall I guess our house looks abandoned enough for theives to think there's nothing inside.

The only theft related incident that I could remember was back when I was about 8. There was this neighborhood kid that me and my brother hung out with a bit every now and then. One day he chilled at our house and his brother came to pick him up, and when he came his brother told him to "empty your pockets". He didn't have anything in them and I know he didn't steal anything, but it's interesting when a person that was just in your house is told to empty their pockets Not as interesting as some of your stories, but that's all I got.

I almost stole a pack of chewing gum when I was small, but then turned back and returned it to the counter. Sometime later, the guilt evidently got to me and I confessed to my parents who didn't know at the time.

I don't have any memory of this, it's only what I've been told by my parents. Who knew I was a hardcore criminal at such a young age!

My only theft story was actually just a couple weeks ago. It's a really funny story.

I'm a pizza deliver guy and I had a delivery to a hotel. When I came back outside, I saw some person in my truck and snoopin' around, clearly trying to steal stuff. So I yelled, "Get the [bad word] out of my truck." And he started bookin' it. Luckily I was parked fairly close and am extremely fast. I caught up to him, grabbed him by the back of the collar and pulled him off balance. I did a quick turn around and just friggin brutally rocked him in the face. Then when he was on the ground, I socked him again.

The only thing he managed to grab was my ipod touch but he had dropped it when I punched him. So I took my ipod back, got in my truck and drove back to work lol.

It was a fun day.

Had my car stereo nicked. The guy screwdrivered the lock off the door, but was kind enough to put it back in when he was done.

I had this funny flap thing in my car, that covered the stereo so you couldn't see it. I figured it was a deterrent, but it probably turned out to be more of a temptation, since the stereo wasn't really worth much. He might've left it alone if he could see it wasn't an expensive one.

When I was 7 I stole 2 bags of chips and a bag of white powdered donuts from the pantry. Then I would not eat my steak at dinner and they would be like "YOU'RE GOING TO GET HUNGRY." Then I would go get stuffed on junk food. Best year of my life.

In my first term at uni I had a kettle in our communal kitchen (in halls) that everyone kept leaving the door unlocked to.

One day I came back and someone had stolen just the kettle part, not the base that plugs into the wall.

So I couldn't use my kettle, and neither could whoever'd stolen it. xD

What a pointless crime.

Someone had probably done it to them already. They probably had the base and not the kettle!

A friend at uni did a similar thing. Somebody nicked his petrol cap for his car, so he nicked one from someone elses car. Cheapskate!

I didn't plan on people posting stories about themselves actually stealing, it was more about things you have had stolen from you. For all of you who have posted about stealing things, I dub ye all scum! People work hard to pay for their items, we don't want scummy chavs to just take them for their own :\.

I think someone needs to invent a camera that can remove items of clothing, some thing like an Xray, to see peoples faces who hide behind hoodies and masks, that would be great!

I'm not saying c0wbox did misplace it, but it's pretty funny how people, when they can't find something, just jump to the immediate conclution, "somebody stole my xxxx!" Like when people can't find their $100 sunglasses... and they're wearing them It's all in good humor too.

Well, what I found very funny when I was in Montreal is seeing all the Toyota Corola's with missing weelcaps. Apparently you can loose them quickly since they're not really attached. Anyway, one point we were doing our grosseries and we stopped getting new wheelcaps. The guy replaced all of them and later on when we returned to the car, they were gone again. Luckely we found them on the corola parked IN FRONT OF US. Apparently the guy simply kept switching the wheelcaps around

OK, TLDR story but...

Several years ago, while living in the Marina Del Rey/West Los Angeles area, my home (rental house) was burglarized. They came on a friday during the daytime while we were both away and made it inside by dismantling a window on the back of the house.

They made off with both of our PCs... Mine was my first home-build and I was really proud of it and had invested about $2000 into it. It also had my special edition WoW disc in the tray (Whaaa!). They took my LCD monitor as well but left his CRT lol. In the process they knocked my printer/scanner thing off my desk and broke it. They took our PS2s but left the Xboxes lol. There were some random games and DVDs taken too. The heaviest thing they took was my house mate's big TV. One of the things stolen which I never replaced was an Aimpoint M68 red-dot scope (I haven't been able to justify spending the money on a new one yet and they really are not so cheap).

They found my house mate's 870 wingmaster shotgun and took it out of the case and had a look but didn't take it (contrary to popular belief most thieves don't steal firearms because it's an automatic felony if they get caught stealing and there's a firearm involved). They might have been more tempted to take my Glock but it was under a pile of dirty laundry in my messy room. Luckily my old Powerbook G3 was under that same pile and we used it to change our online passwords and such.

They totally made a mess of the place too. There were some things from his room in my room and the other way around. We also found a bunch of DVDs and such dumped in a hallway closet of all places. It took us several months to realize everything that was stolen because the things they took were pretty random. We'd be looking for something and couldn't find it then realize it had probably been stolen.

We immediately called the police and they arrived pretty swiftly (The Police station was only a few blocks away). The Police were pretty much useless. They even forgot to take their fingerprinting kit and I had to run it out to to them before they left. The following week we had an alarm installed.

To add insult to injury, both my housemate and I had just starting working again after being laid off a while so we were both nearly broke.

We actually hoped they would pay us another visit (while we were home) but it never happened. There were a couple prowlers but no joy. To this day, many years later, if I can't find something I blame it on "the crack-head thieves" lol

At my old apartment, I had a garage. I was replacing the alternator in a friends Contour late one night and put her car in the garage while mine sat in the parking lot across from it. At midnight I had the old alternator removed and told her I'd finish in the morning when the sun came out, she stayed with her ex who lived in my complex. Now, the reason I did this in the garage was because it was very cold, I'm talking like 5 degrees outside (well below freezing). At around 7am I go outside and see my car's trunk open and my speakers missing.

There's been another time where the CDs were stolen out of my car. And also CDs were stolen from my friend's van in the same parking lot the very night she moved into the complex.

I know it had to be somebody in this complex stealing everything. Someone had to been watching the area and knew what I had in my car (probably watched me do the install) and knew I had the car sitting outside that night. Because no thief walks around town checking cars in the middle of night when it's 0 degrees outside.

Police were useless in the matter and the complex never did anything despite the several claims I've made to them about theft in the area. There is an old rent-a-cop dude that drives around, but he apparently doesn't do anything productive.

Fortunately for me, the thief stole a speaker box which contained 1 semi-working 10" woofer and 1 blown woofer, with a 200w amp screwed on back. I was actually going to replace them with a new system I had bought but just hadn't gotten around to installing them yet. If it wasn't for my laziness with building my new box, the thief could have gotten away with a pair of brand new 12's and a very nice amp.

this past veteran's day, i forgot to lock my front door before heading to work (i sometimes make multiple trips to the car, gathering everything i need for the day before double-checking the lock. obviously, i didn't that day). about an hour after returning home i noticed the nightstand drawer was open, disheveled, and shy ~$2,000 i'd stashed there. an hour later and i realized my laptop and digital camera were missing, too.

it could have been much worse but still stings a bit! what stings more is the fact that our neighborhood watch captain had chased an individual off of her street (1 block up from me) who was going door to door, checking door knobs, and never called the cops....

lesson learned (i hope); i've since developed an ocd-ish paranoia when it comes to locking doors, etc.

@ Errant AI That's insane man... Were you reimbursed anything from your insurance?

This isn't quite a theft story per se... but it involves a break-in. We have a house in the mountains and one day we get a call from our neighbors up there. They always take care of our place when we are gone, so they were peeking around our house, seeing if anything was wrong. They found something wrong, needless to say. All I'm gonna say is, it involves a bear. Look at the picture and see for yourself.

There's also this old saying, "Does a bear crap in the woods?" Well the answer is actually, no... they crap in our house. Lol.

Story here too! (with happy ending.)

When i was walking with my brother down one of the main streets in the capital city of Argentina (Buenos aires) some dudes , that we had not seen coming out, told us to empty our pockets, gun in hand, and hand cellphones, money, we gave the dude around 14 dollars-ish
but when they were about to leave, 2 guys appeared from the station entrance (wich was 3 meters away from the place we where) and they told to us to leave while they pushed the thieves away, we couldnt retreive the money, but still, we saved our cellphones at least. and my pocket, wich i had 50-60 dollars.

Thats it for me.

Lets get into serious stuf

I know that's definitely not the case because I didn't use it more than about once and searched everywhere multiple times (even upon leaving the halls as well)

We came to the conclusion given that because it was snowy and icy outside someone must have used it to throw water on their car or something in the morning and just threw it in a hedge afterwards.

Either way, it wouldn't surprise me if someone genuinely stole it, it's not very hard to steal stuff from kitchens that aren't locked while we're all at lectures. !

Someone stole a set of windchimes off of our porch, they weren't even fancy either! just some aluminum pipes suspended on some thread from a piece of plywood (it was homemade).

Maybe they got blown away in a large storm or something? One my trash cans got blown at least 100 or so yards from my house in one storm.

Nah, when they dissapeared, it was during a drought and it was rare for any storms to occur, definitely stolen, even if wind blew them off, they would've been just right beside my porch. I'm pretty sure they were stolen, we have found people wondering around our property at night before.

I'm thinking of getting a GPS tracker fitted to my new bike in the future. So if that gets taken by a thief, I can look where it is and go around their home/hide out and take it back or just tell the police where it is so they can bring it back for me and arrest the scum.

I remember a less depressing story I wanted to share.

Well, you need to know that I kind of worship women and I had that one bucket in my class that time who literally abused his girlfriend in every way possible....naturally we didn't like each other. So yeah...I was in love, had the constant need to comunicate with her and he had this nice cellphone... I didn't have one ( and I might add, talking on the housephone about how we love each other next time in the trains washroom with momma ironing the laundry next door wasn't exactly a good idea)... you can figure the rest out by yourself.

I gave it back to him a few months later as I bought my own one...his phone was white which really isn't my color. I slipped it on his desk unseen and everyone was happy.

I was young

Got another one

A recent one as well...so I was walking over the flay market in arlon. I was walking through the crowd and I suddenly felt a slight pull on my left side. Someone must have managed to grab into the inner pocket of my jacket and stole the 20 cent lighter I had in there. This fascinated me because I didnt see who it was nor where he came from. That guy was like a ninja. I only felt it and remember a vague figure lightly touhing me... well,...he can keep the lighter for that

This is rather funny:

My mother loves flowers. So we have a lot on the front windows of our house. One day I was in the living room feeding the fishes as I saw some old lady taking a planter from there and walking away. She really tried to get away fast ...looked like a walking duck...something in between sad and funny. I just went out and in told her in luxemburgian: "Madame, I fear that this is our planter."
She handed it back to me with a brief gesture and a "hmm" sound, turned her back on me and went away... I almost felt bad taking the plant away from her

Wow. My ex-girlfriend tried out for American Idol once. She didn't make it. She had a beautiful voice, too.

Anyway, first, my most recent one. We just got back from a week long vacation last night, but a few days ago we were in a WalMart, and I took my nice new $40 sun glasses off my face and put them in my pocket, and looked at some sun glasses with my dad and sis. Well, while I was looking at the sun glasses, this lady bumps me with her cart, and starts all this apologizing for it. Then some dude bumps me from behind, and walks away really fast, and the lady all of a sudden walks away. Well, I go to walk away, and my glasses are gone! I hadn't walked anywhere since taking them off my face, but I couldn't find them anywhere. I think the guy that bumped me, picked them from my pocket, and the lady was his distraction. The funny thing is, I also had my iPhone, and Nintendo DS in the same pocket! I'm glad he didn't lift those! And, he couldn't get my wallet, as long ago I bought a wallet chain, because I've had my wallet stolen a few times.

But, a funny one from a long time ago. And, the reason I bought said wallet chain. Back in high school(pfff, a long time ago... I'm old ), I took my wallet out, and was going to lend my friend a few bucks for some food. Well, this black kid, who was older and quite a bit taller than me, walked up and grabbed my wallet and walked away! I darted up to him, and said, "Hey, man, give me my wallet!" And, he says, "What are you talking about? This is my wallet." *!!!* That made me mad. I said, "What!? Give me my damn wallet back!" And, the kid starts to walk away. I reach around him, grab my wallet, and start to fight him for it. He tries to shove me, so I throw him back and pull it from him in the process. He actually starts yelling thief! Me and my friend just left(it was after school). But, me and him still revel in the moron who thought he could steal my wallet from my hand, and then yell thief when I take it back!
