For my Birthday I got a Kindle. Took it to the beach, it got scratched, it died a few days later. Luckily the warrantee covers damage however caused and I got another. The one I got also died a week later because the advert boasts you can put it in your pocket. I was taking a shortcut through to town through a broken wall when it cracked in my pocket. So I got another one from the warrantee.

After that, my parents decided to get me a case. The thing is: It has a magnetic snap. I am more aquainted with the software side of technology, but am aware that magnets and electronics do not agree, so to speak. I'm also moving soon, and there are no known Curry's branches in the area.

So my question is this: How much damage could a magnetic snap cover do to electronics, or a kindle long term and short term.

Obligatory "Magnets, how do they work?".
I have Kindle, and I use a faux leather case for it. As far as I'm aware, magnets mostly damage only hard drives, dvds, and such.

Magnets shouldn't affect electronics. Magnets only effect harddrives because they themselves use a magnetic charge to hold data. ( or something like that. )

I don't see how a magnet can break a dvd though.

it might somehow make the area closest to the magnet a bit darker, but as long as you use the thing, and let it refresh pages, it should take away this kind of thing, nut really still, get another case non magnetic, to be on the safe side, and really dont listen to me i am a jackass when it comes to gadgets and electronics get a non magnetic case, Or get an LCD screen reader they are not affected by magnets. Also, why kindle? there are tons of others that are much better!, personally i dont like kindle, it reminds me too much of an apple product. and Steve Jobs is like the devil of my religion.

The screen is like having actual paper in front of you, it's amazing.

I heard that the cases that Amazon sells for the Kindle use magnets to close so I wouldn't worry. DVDs use microscopic bumps that aren't effected at all by magnets. The magnets that are probably in that case aren't powerful enough to even effect hard drives if their right next to the drive. Test how powerful the magnet is by putting several sheets of paper in front of it and see if a paperclip stays put. The amount of paper used is how far out the magnet will effect anything.

i know i also have a reader that looks like actual paper, but its not kindle. i picked a simple, durable and cool looking model that didnt have too much stuff in it. the more simple the device is, the less likley it is to break or have problems.

maybe its just my weird ways, but certain gadgets that everyone seemes to get because of their popularity or fashion statements (kindle is one of them, like everyone has a kindle, i ride in a subway, and all i see is iphones and kindles everywhere). i manage to find gadgets that personaly suit me better than the popular fashin statement type gadgets.
