I bought a replica... I actually don't know what to call it. It is a dagger gun I guess. I was hoping someone might know a bit about it, or at least what it is called. (And yes, this is a replica, not authentic) Thanks in advance for any information!

I've seen them somewhere before. Pirate movies I think. I guess it's purpose is close range combat. Pop a cap and then pile in!

Probably the same idea as strapping a bayonet to a gun, except more...integrated.

Ya know, it's a wicked idea for a game weapon.

There's a whole world's worth of items with guns attached. When black powder became known to the Europeans, they took the concept and tried to integrate guns into everything. In the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, the French and British had shields with a matchlock barrel in the middle! The Poles around the same time armed their court guard with matchlock axes. The Swiss used a similar axe for their navy. This relic(or copy of) stems from a long history of blade type weapons with integrated guns. This one looks to be of late 15th or early 16th century Italian design. Probably fires roughly a .30 ball. As for a name, they were usually just called something a long the lines of 'main weapon type' + gun. So, probably dagger gun in Italian. But, I don't speak Italian. Hate to burst your bubble on that one note, but in this time period, naming weapons became more utilitarian than romantic.

There's my nerdiness! My dad and I have always been uber history buffs. I love pre-Industrial history, and he loves post-Industrial history. Hope you enjoyed my little history lesson.

Amo.

Haha! Totally forgot about the pistol sword! It always reminded me of the Gunblade from FFVIII. Also, didn't know they made gun weapons in India! That's a new one on me. Wow! That Wikipedia page just enlightened me more. Thanks Bruce.

NP. Normally I don't take much notice of Wikipedia, what with its somewhat dubious credibility, but I thought that article at least was interesting.

That's cool! Reminds me of when we made a revolver sword a while back. Wish I could find the photo of it... don't have it anymore to take a new pic... authorities got involved, and it's most likely somewhere in a goverment lost 'n found.

"Boy, you just brought a knife to a gun figh-- oh, damn!"

THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE AGAIN.

No seriously, how is this not a good idea? With todays tech, you could even have a little bulletproof screen to look through. And it wouldn't be any heavier that a police riot sheild.

@ Design Runner: NP. It is a pretty interesting concept. I like the model you got going on there.

@ Insert Name Here: A Lexan riot shield with a USP .45ACP in the middle! Although, that would contradict it's anti-riot design. The real problem with having a gun in the middle of a shield is, you can't cover an exposed angle while firing in a different direction. That, and you can't use sights... Effectively, at least.

Well then, make the gun seperate from the sheild... oh.

I was gonna post about my idea for a large cylindrical sheild with a gun on a track that could move around the full 360 degrees, but then I realised I was basically describing a small tank. Still, I think there is potential for this sheilds + guns combo - for instance, if you're firing a gun you're usually aiming at your enemies, why not a small peice on the to of the gun to protect the head and face, for example? But then I suppose a helmet is both easier and more effective :/

I've seen many modern stationary turrets with a shield. It's not that unheard of... and, to be honest, it's pretty obvious to protect yourself from the people shooting back at you.
