At first I thought, dumb! But the more I watched the video the cooler I thought it was. Pointless? Maybe. Another reason to make kids draw crap on your windows? Most likely.

This is amazing. Imagine if it just had links to information or google searches for anything significant out your window and all you had to do was switch it on. Info about landmarks, directions, restaurant menus, store hours. I think that the potential feature list for something like this is huge. The more I watched the video the more I started to think about how cool this really could be.

Maybe I'm being a bit cynical, but the video looked entirely edited to me.

If such a thing does come out, I question the way people would use these features. Imagine how easy it would be to spy on someone if you could just zoom in on them. "Click" on said person to find information about them via the Internet.

Sure, it looks like a child's play-thing to keep them entertained on the road, but think about what all the sickos in the world would do with it.

In all honesty, knowing the people my age, there'd be a whole load of cars on the British roads with...phallic imagery drawn on the windows.

I can't believe you guys are so amazed by this, ever seen a HUD on an airplane? Also this might not even exist yet, notice the word "concept" in the article. The video looks like it had the crap edited out of it.

THIS.

I'll be watching this with a "believe it when I see it" approach.

Obviously the video is edited... It's a concept!

Yes, I thought of airplane huds. Does it matter if it's in use in the military? No. Tech almost always starts out in military applications and filters down to the general public. This is for a consumer product. This would be a spectacular feature to have if you really think about what it's capable of.

The video demonstration is a bit lame, I must admit, but look at my list of suggestions above. My cell phone can do alot of these things already, but to have it built into your car would be wonderful.

Not to be a total troll here but it would also be bad for a few reasons:

1. It would cost too much to be practical in a family car.
2. If I had kids I would never let them touch my windows
3. Higher car cost, higher insurance.
4. Replacement would be a nightmare.
5. Knowing toyota your super hi-tech windows would most likely contain 17 diffrent toxic chemicals, be prone to shattering and creating fragments.

It would be a neet toy but nothing more.
If it were created for cars as a HUD then it would probability become illegal very fast.

I'm pretty sure tech like this'll reach one prototype car that gets featured on Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson draws some rude pictures on it, then it gets forgotten and abandoned.

Heh, each prius does more damage to the environment than the average BP oil spill. (obviously exaggerating for effect here )

I imagine it would be projector based, or would be a thin flexible screen (similar to e-paper screens they never found a decent use for ) In which case the screen could be replaced without replacing the window, or perhaps salvaged from a window with a crack

I imagine they're relying on OLED technology. Thankfully OLED has started to see the market, at £2000 ish for a 19 inch telly.

Video is fake. Watch the tree, when it movies backward it manages to float in mid-air to the back window, the angle and rotation didn't change at all, neither did the scale. Back windows on cars always have curvature, you'd easily see when it was moving on a back window.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

Yes. We know the video is fake. There is a disclaimer at the start of it near the bottom of the screen. That is not the point, it's a CONCEPT... Judas Priest!

I feel stupid in a way, if it was in the video annotations, that would be why I didn't see it. I didn't read the article, as if the internet has taught me anything, if there is a video in an article, the video normally tells you what the article is talking about (note I said normally).

It's nice but kids would be bored with it in about 5 minutes.

I don't know if I'd want something that talked affixed to my car in the reach of my kids! It's bad enough having a GPS system spouting things in my face like, "Destination is 5 feet ahead. Park here. Put it in park. Push seat belt release lever." "Yes, TomTom, I know how to drive!" My parents insists on having GPS for vacations. Haha.

Im not gonna lie, i want these windows. Lol... I think its an awesome idea.

That zoom feature is so cool. I have horrible eye sight but refuse to wear glasses because i dont like to look nerdy; I prefer to look manly with cut-off T shirts lol so glasses dont work for me (getting contacts september 2nd lol.) So that zoom would be cool; i would be playing with that for hours while in the car to our vacation home lol.

Wonderful to hear that you drive with impaired vision.
