I'd like to say that I would like for any Minecraft players to tell the story of their first few nights. But, first, let me tell mine:

Well, I decided to take a look at Minecraft last night. I played classic for only a couple of hours before making the jump and buying beta(I'm normally not that hasty, but it was fun!). Anyway, I have a horror story from my first night. My first home is basically a cave on a plateau. My first version included steps to my front door, which was just a 3x3 hole in the front of my house, with steps leading right up. I might as well have built a billboard that read("Fine dining, next left"). I got swamped by mobs! What a night. I got attacked 3 times!!! Then on my second night, I decided I would make ladders leading up the front and back. Those stupid archer things(skeletons?) were shooting me through my windows! Then on my third night, I was in my basement putting away items, I climb my stairs, and there's a spider in my house, and it was standing over me! Good thing it was too big for the opening, I just stood under it, gutting it with my sword.

Well, anyway, now my house is a small fortress, 4 tiles high on the front and back, and surrounded by a 15 tile drop into the ocean on the other two! I've got a lip to keep things from jumping up. It's surrounded by torches, with a bunkered basement that I can lock myself in, and large chests dedicated to nothing but armaments! Although, I want one with escape tunnels and such.

Anywho, I'd like to hear some other stories, just to judge how bad I did. Alright, later.

Amo.

[EDIT] Also, Ocho, if you read this, I now know what that thing is in your avatar. Up until earlier today, I thought it was some kind of square robot like the thing from Halo or something! Haha. I was always like, what the heck is that?!?!

My first night was huddled in the side of a dirt hill, with a 1x3 "window", up until the skeletons showed up...then it was a small dirt cave which I would break a block to look outside occasionally before quickly resealing it. In the morning when I left, I got creeper'd.

From then on, started building houses with doors everywhere...and always made sure every door was closed at night.

Now though I can go tra-la-la-ing at night with nothing to defend myself and avoid getting myself killed for the most part(except in the Aether mod...I still get my rear end handed to me all over the Aether...have only conquered the bronze dungeons so far)

When I first played, I didn't really know anything about the game. So... my first day was spent going "Oo!" and "Ah!" at the scenary and getting myself completely and utterly lost. I punched a few cows, punched a few sheep, got some wool, and then everything got dark. So dark, that I couldn't really tell what anything on screen was. I heard a moan, and my feet were flying as fast as they would take me, to wherever the darkness would lead me. A "twang!", a "ssss!", and a "BOOM!" later, I'm teleported to WHO KNOWS where, without my wool. Nothing (seemingly) looked familiar, so I thought maybe when you died in this game, you were taken to a completely new place. Man, I thought that was so hard core. So I went off to try and find a safe place (still in the dark), I tried living in a cave and got eaten by spiders... I tried living on the beach, and had my brain munched by zombies... I tried living on a deserted island...... and that one worked out for the most part, after I narrowly dodged a creeper blast upon arriving. So, I made a tree house out of wood to stay off the ground. Of course, I didn't know how to make ladders at this point (or much of anything... I was breaking wood with my bare hands), the only thing I had really worked out to make was a workbench and planks. So I had a basic block staircase leading up to the house, made of dirt, that I would break before night fell. During night, I would slave away at figuring out crafting recipes with my workbench.... First thing I figured out was sticks, then a door, then chests... then after 3 full nights, I finally figured out how to make a shovel which then lead to the creation of the other tools, and then the game REALLY began.

It took me nearly a year to figure out that shift + click moved things more efficiently in your inventory. My life is now complete.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

Yeah, I hate creepers, too. I had one assault me in one of my mines. I heard a noise turned around, and BOOM! I managed to survive somehow(Barely!). I even had torches everywhere and the mine entrance sealed!!! Today I got assaulted by 2 skeletons in the same mine. But, hey, I found some more diamond ore, a water spring, and a lava spring(3 actually)! So, it's only my second day, and I'm going to start an obsidian mine(Go me!)! I can't wait to get some glowstones!!! Also, if it's as strong as they say it is, I want to plate my small plateau with Obsidian. Also, I no longer live in a cave, I have a 4 floor castle!!! Maybe I should have made this thread topic about peoples' homes instead... Now, I'm interested in that!

[EDIT] @ Crispex: Holy, crap! Really!? Wow! That's good to know. Now it'll be easier to move my chests around.

That feature was never properly announced when it was implemented...took me a while to figure it out as well...I actually discovered it after having a mod installed which did basically the same thing but moved stacks instead of singles.

My first house (actual house, not a cave) was the crappy treehouse I mentioned earlier, consisting of a small 1x1 window, a 3x3x2 room, with a workbench... it took a while before the door got installed.

Second house was a small fort (made of wood as well), but the discovery of flint and steel -- and a bit of alcohol... made that one shortlived.

Third house -- a giant rectangular building, with a "fair" amount of room inside, grass flooring, made entirely of cobblestone. Build the second floor out of wood... which burned down after I lined the outside of my house with ever-burning netherack. The second floor was replaced maybe a month (in-game days) later with more cobblestone, and turned it into a mini mine cart station (no, it wasn't a fantastic station like you see on youtube)

(Skipping unused houses)

Fourth house, built on an SMP... was a small shack in a small town someone built. Next visit on that server I found out the entire town had been whiped off the map... except for their mine entrance which didn't really lead anywhere. So I commandeered the mine and built a shack around it, which evolved over time into a magnificent castle! I was quite proud of it

Latest house was more or less built by pistons. All 6 walls were auto-built from pistons using cobble generated from lava and water. It was very handy since I could go gather other building materials while it was doing its thing. Had to make 8 trips to the nether to get enough lava to fill the floor lighting, though.
There's a problem with this one, though... I have my bed on the third floor, in a small room. Whenever I try to sleep there's about an 80% chance that I'll be attacked... the entire house is completely lit, and everywhere outside of the house is lit (within 100 blocks)... not sure why, but it really sucks
