I was just curious, but moderators, what is it like to be a moderator? Like how do you lock threads and give out noob slaps to people? Also, arent you guys able to post on locked threads?

Imagine browsing the forums. Now imagine having to scrutinise some of the posts you would normally ignore. Imagine having to read the stuff that is of no interest to you. Imagine checking every post of newcomers and sifting through more WoW Gold spammers than you can ever imagine. Think of the few spam posts you see and multiply it by 100; that's what comes into the Mod box and occasionally one gets through in a dazed stupour.

That's 50% of being a mod. The rest is hate mail from people who acted stupid, got stopped and got mad.

That would be cool. I'd like to see the big "plot destruction of" around trouble threads.

I've taken a few screenies of the mod thread controls, and the buttons we have when we click a user's profile. If some other mods chime in and have no problem with it, I'll post them here. I'm not sure if we are supposed to keep some of these functions a secret

What like the "Cause Login Errors For Lulz" button?

I like the idea that moderators are basically running a little puppet show and have tonnes of secret buttons everywhere. Is there a hidden mod forum that has a post for every member and their ban record, etc?

Do you have a big red button that says 'DO NOT PRESS'?

Lol!! Haha that is funny! I can imagine you have to read a lot if you are a mod, usually in a thread you wont see anything from a moderator until things get out of hand or off topic, then a mod is right there at that instant!! It just goes to show the mods read everything! Are you mods alerted each time a new post or thread exists??

Biggadd, being that you are a mod, i cant see you posting an image that stretches the page, but you have!

Heheheh, it almost loox like playing a game.

But, I'm sure the mods have no fun in having to slap or ban one more immature behaving member. I bet most of us wouldn't want to be in their shoes.

I was actually born as a moderator, it's all I've ever known...

On a more serious note--as the guys mentioned it's a lot of cleaning up those who take away from the community. We also spend time using our tools to sticky useful threads, run competitions, and recogne those members who are going above and beyond others to help make this the great community it is.

I think it must be like being God. But with more reading. If only all of us could aspire to such heights. Many a night I lay awake wondering if they were moderating me right there and then. Or even as I squatted on the lavvy... But it is not for us, the mere users, to wonder at the awe and majesty that goes into the act of moderating... They simply serve, and yet have the power to end the world...

Seriously though, who cares? It's some dudes who spend (probably) much more time here than us...

Cheers

dealing with children all day in and out. BiggAdd has it easy with the 3D modeling board. The occasional spam thread, the super noob in denial that people may lose there temper at after they try to sell there stuff for the 8th time.

But...

Yes; I remember once upon a time (about 5 years ago) when I was a regular member, and my inbox was uncluttered...

Being an FPSC Mod is quite the task at times. It's gotten a lot better though, honestly; many here can remember the days when the FPSC Boards were like the Wild West. It took a lot of work; but we managed to clean house. We still get the occasional flare-up there (such as the whole N2K "fiasco"), and that usually goes on for a few days; but then things go back to normal. It's a lot like having a part-time job, without the pay.

I've honestly gotten a lot of pleasure out of helping the Community over the years; though it's been at a cost of hindering my own development, as I already have a full-time job and family. I have become a lot less lenient over the years; though I still try to remain impartial and fair, but I am still human...as are the other Moderators here. We do the best we can in this very large Community; some people don't think that's enough, but you can't please everyone...just like in real life.

Yeah I can imagine the moderators get their fair share of abuse, people don't like being moderated.

I used to moderate a big religious discussion forum...nuff said. Most of the time we were called corrupt and biased or that the mods simply 'didn't like them', yet if they saw the moderator discussion board they'd actually see a lot of thought is put behind each action. Our moderator section had a profile for each member who broke rules or acted in a way that we ought to keep an eye on them because it looks as though they might cause trouble. And the profiles applied to anybody we saw breaking a rule, including some of our favoured long-time members.

Also, what Jerico said. I dedicated a certain number of hours a week to modding on that forum. I suspect the moderators here have a similar experience, hence why it makes me laugh when people start accusing forum moderators for being corrupt. Jeez, if they were, Jeku would have banned me a looooooong time ago.

I guess if you have to read everything then that would get annoying!

i dont know about the mods here, i think you really have to be dedicated to the subject to activley participate in the forum.
My story. my drunk friend got drunk and somehow managed to whip up some social networking site over night. in the morning, he pointed his finger at me saying "YOU! will be a moderator" and really, its kinda boaring especially if the subject isnt interesting to you. I dont think i would like being a mod because i cant really dedicate myself to one thing for too long, i get bored of it.

dont hate people who rip you off, cheat and get away with it, learn from them

Okay, I see the banhammer button... but what does the raptor button do?
