Ever noticed how you can be coasting along happily for many weeks, just for everything to come to a head on one day and destroy your nerves?!

Yesterday was my most stressful day for a long time. It started with getting up really early as my mrs has to start work earlier than normal. Then I tried to continue working on my Android OpenGL ES model animation code/transformations, which has be bashing my head against the wall (if someone has experience of Java + OpenGL ES 2.0 + the Milkshape animation format, please help!! ). Really struggling ...

Then at midday, I met with my parents and girlfriend for a second viewing on a house we want to buy. Stressful dealing with parents. Follow that by conversations about money with my dad, which is enough to make me want to gouge out my own spleen. Then an hour later I am on the phone with the estate agent making offers on our first house, committing myself to 30 years of being a slave to the bank and it's current mortgage rates. Finally we had our offer accepted on the house, and soon I will be a proud home owner. Then I had to phone around loads of solicitors for quotes to do with conveyancing, haggling and what not.

But it didn't stop there, because then I had to frantically make dinner for me and mrs in time for her to take me out to a pub in the middle of nowhere. There I met 3 strangers I'd only ever met online before, with the aim to setup a live drum'n'bass band. The meet went well, and everyone is sound, and we're now meeting next week for our first proper music session.

But it didn't stop there ... because when I got home that night, half cut from beers, I had an email from a google employee saying they may feature Fat Ball on the market if I make a few changes.

So I wake up this morning, with a load of tweaks I need to make to my game, having to finalise a solicitor for the house, sending out music demos and directives to my new band members, and I also need to get to my parents house to use my dads car washing kit, wash and vacuum my car so I can get it online to be sold, so that I can raise money for the mortgage deposit.

If anyone would like to kill me, I would welcome the easy way out!

So now I've vented, anyone else got any stressful days to report?

Unlucky man, congratulations with the game and the house though! I know it's stressful, but it looks like there's a lot of good things in there too

Realising that the 42hours of work you've sank into a model and someone better than you did it in a more expensive program in 10 hours, because of course he used your concept work, plans and even the poly flow management of your model.

That was a pretty bad day, till I got a cup of tea, sat back down and laughed since he couldn't use it in his portfolio without my permission as creative commons covered everything i had posted & all my work was signed.

I don't see anything stressful in your day whatsoever. You say, "the meet went well.. But it didn't stop there!!!"

Maybe your words aren't explaining it enough, but it seemed like an ordinary day. You bought a new house, which I can understand causing worries, but that's a time for celebration at the very least... Not being stressed out.

Sounds like you have created a lot of opportunities for yourself mate. With that comes stress, but life will plateau and you will have time to adjust to all the added stresses coming in from many angles. Your working hard, so take a few minutes for yourself to reflect and see all that you're building.

No, that's more stressful buddy, and I feel for you. My life at the moment is a lot of big decisions and randomness coming in huge lumps, but it's not hanging over my head like debt. Hopefully you can sort that stuff out because the every day it hangs over your head it's a big shame. You looked into debt consolidation loans?

Something tells me you either haven't bought a house before, or in California it's a lot easier. Perhaps you buy a new house every day? To me, making huge decisions about hundreds of thousands of pounds you don't have, committing to a 30 year mortgage, and juggling all the admin while being pressured from all sides is stressful.

Mind you, some people are cool characters and only really feel stressed while in really bad situations, like getting stabbed or chased by crazed killer dogs, for example! Maybe you're one of them, but I'm human.

Thanks Mike. Yes, hopefully when everything settles down, I'll be able to get some satisfaction from it all.

To top everything off now though, a notorious group of travellers/gypsies/pikeys have just set up camp in a field next to our house, so we're now at constant threat of getting burgled. Last night they were out on the prowl. All our valuables are upstairs in the bedroom with us at night.

I had a lot of stress moving to the USA a few months back... everything is different. Bringing my car across the border and having to get about 10 different things sent from Toyota, my old insurance company, and the DMV to the port authority in California, before I could leave.

A few weeks before I moved Toyota told me that I can't take the car out of the country unless I paid off the remaining balance of the financing ($16,000), which was a real kick in the pants.

Then when I got here discovering that I need to actually do my written AND road test to get my Cali license, even though I've been driving with a perfect record in British Columbia for 15 years, was rather ridiculous. Apparently my Canadian license expired 10 days after I arrived, but my road test wasn't scheduled for 1.5 months after I arrived. At least I passed the test!

My rent has since doubled in San Francisco (DOUBLED to $2000 a month for a bachelor suite... I mean wtf?!), and my perfect credit rating in Canada doesn't transfer over to the US, so I have 0 credit here... not enough to even get a credit card. Also, my girlfriend still lives in Canada, about a 14 hour drive from here.

Exactly one day after I arrived in Cali, my ex wife refused to sign the divorce papers back in Canada unless I paid her out her entire remaining alimony (1 year remaining and about $6000 left).

Yah, these last few months have been pretty stressful for me too, I hear ya I almost bought a condo 2 times since 2005, even coming down to the final HOUR both times before getting cold feet and abandoning so I don't lose my deposit. The first time was with my wife at the time, so I'm grateful eternally that we didn't do that, and the second time about a month before I moved to the US.

I'm finally starting to dig myself back out of debt.

I woke up late this morning after not being able to sleep, due to seeing a giant huntsman spider in my room and then not being able to find it again to remove it. If your not from Australia you need to understand that huntsman spiders are big, fast, scary, hairy and devious.
It's still in my house somewhere...

not in the same league as buying a house, moving, divorce or debt, but mark my words, a huntsman encounter can make for a very stressful day.

The following is scary and huntsman related.

I've moved 3 times, but I personally have never bought my own house. I pay monthly rent on an apartment, but that's it. My parents weren't ever stressed out from it. Maybe it's just how we roll lol, but others I've known who have bought their first house celebrated it.
But like I said, I understand how it could be stressful, I just don't think you're looking at it in the right light... Buying your first house is something to celebrate.

but also completely harmless. I'm not bothered if I see a spider in the house, although since moving to this place 2 years ago I haven't even seen a Huntsman, our last place had loads of them in the garage.

I had a pretty awful week at work, one of the kids in the school I teach in died. He was the brother of one of the kids in my class. He was 8 years old.

It really made all the things I thought were stressful seem pretty insignificant.

That's all true but they look dangerous and "fast" might be an understatement, they move like the wind. I can understand you not being able to sleep after losing a huntsman in your room!

What about a snake? But for me it depends on the spider, if I see a spider longer than 2cm its time to take action, that spider becomes top prioty then and there. And since I live in Sydney we have to be extra cautious since Funnel-Webs (one of the most deadly spiders in the world) are crawling around.

That's very sad, especially since he was so young, it's just not fair. Everytime I hear something like this I always appreciate life and the people around me a lot more. My condolences to all of the friends and family.

Now for my stress story. Three words, Higher School Certificate. I'm not sure what it is called in other states and coutries but this is the test I take at the end of high school. You then apply for universities, colleges etc.

My personal order of stress in my lifetime (1 being most stressful):-
1. Buying first house
2. selling first house
3. Sorting everything out to get married
4. Buying second house
5. Selling second house
6. Moving to another country
7. Work (on average, was much more stressful in the beginning)
8. Actually getting married
9. Family
10. Driving to work (aaaarrgghhh hate the M4!)
11. Worrying pains as you get older (that turn out to be nothing)
12. Exams (meh)

Ah man, downer about the car, what sweet ride are you moving on to now? Is it French and crumples like a tin can?

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing
