Well i know this is my second ipod battery question, but either way, i got my new ipod touch 4g on Friday. The battery worked ok but not great so i did some research and found that turning off bluetooth and facetime would help, and also turning off wifi when i didnt need it to. That helped a small bit. I know my computer's USB voltage output is about 5.15 volts, which is why i think it fried my other ipod battery. So i havent charged my touch on my computer. I have instead been using a USB charger for my camera that outputs 5.02 volts which is better than 5.15 volts of my computer, but over time the battery has been getting worse. So is it all in my head or is the charger ruining my ipod's battery? After all, it outputs the same exact thing a computer should which is what the ipod is designed to charge on. If you are wondering, i play simple 2D games, and what used to drain no battery during half an hour of play now drains it 10% for only 10 minutes of gameplay. Please help! Thank you!

My guess is that you may have some 3rd party app installed that's draining it. I had that issue before, but not knowing what it was I reinstalled the firmware from scratch and no more battery drain. Disabling WiFi also helps me quite a bit, but I've noticed at home it's not an issue but only on other people's routers. Also, a lot of texting kills the battery I've noticed.

USB supplies 5v of power, which range from about 4.75v to 5.25v so you should be fine as that isn't going to fry your battery. Higher than that then I would worry.

Older chargers only carry about 500mA, while the newer ones for the past several years will carry 1A of current. Cheaper chargers may be even less which relates into a slower charge.

If you just bought the iPod on Friday, I'd take it back to the store if you're that concerned about the battery life. Well, make an appointment with Apple THEN go to the store, otherwise they won't even talk to you.

Good idea, thanks for the input. But about the 3rd party app thing, i end any apps when i am not using them, so i dont know. But one app i downloaded when things really started getting bad i just deleted, so we will see if that helps.

So in order to use this product for a decent amount of time, you must shut down all features it has?

Hooray for progress. *Slow clap.*

Seriously. Why are batteries so terrible in comparison to the technology they power?

In terms of battery life, Apple tends to have the longest lasting products.

Interesting...

Another issue i have with my touch is that the backlight seems somewhat uneven. I only notice it when the screen is all the same color, and usually when im in a dark room and the ipod is at an angle to me. If it isnt at an angle, i dont see it. Is this normal? it looks like 3 vertical lines that are slightly lighter than the surrounding.

In the end, other than the slight little 'defects' the iPod is having, i say congrats to Apple for making such an amazing product with such a brilliant idea behind it.

It's an LCD, they all change brightness when viewed from angles. Hence why I hate desktop LCDs.

But not really the brightness, it just shows a pattern when viewed at different angles... My two year old verizon VX8360 crap cellphone actually has almost no brightness change regardless of the angle.

Mine does this too, but I'm always looking head on.

My Sony Walkman has never crashed, has a perfectly functioning screen, and has a battery that lasts on average a week listening to music four...four hours a day maybe?

Apple are okay, but I personally hate them. Their rep in our area for sales is deserving of a title the AUP denies. He complained we weren't motivated to sell the new postage-stamp edition iPod Nano, when the company only makes £5 profit after sellng it for £129.

I partially bought the Walkman because someone offered me it at 2/5 of the price, and mostly because I'm not earning that guy a penny buy getting an iPod.

Lol!

@CoffeeGrunt i mainly bought mine for the apps and games, no music, so a walkman would do me no good. I personally love Apple and think their products are great!

I've had no problems with my iPod at all. All apple products seem to be very reliable, tough, and well polished. I've had mine since Christmas and it's battery is the same as always.

My Mind is very odd, it can memorize hundreds of commands, memorize 2 dictionary's worth of words, and make detailed 3D models. Yet my mind has trouble with the most simple calculations.
