Just so we understand your question...are you asking if your texture is getting a normal map effect without creating a normal map?

From the examples you have shown here it appears that it is an optical illusion because the texture you are using has shadows and specularity baked into the color map.

The real test is to add a static light, move around and see if the light reflects off of different areas in your map. My guess would be no and that the illusion is entirely in your source texture.

Give me a minute and I will show you what it looks like with a normal and spec map added.

Here is the texture with a normal and spec map added. You can see how the light is reflected off of bumps from the normal map. It won't look this way with out them. Instead the lighting would be flat much like an ambient light.

In this example I have turned the ambient light down very low so as to accent the normal and spec effect. I used a dark blue/gray light at 500. Hope this helps. If you want the normal and spec maps, email me and I'll send them to you.

want to see a shader thing, then get an entity make diffuse spec and norm and dont whatever you do, dont assign a shader effect from effect bank and these are what will be the outcome

thanks for testing,
the texture i was working with this example
you tested has Combined Height Map effect map.

@srealist
thanks for testing i have the normals and spec.

take a look here for more info, http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/gen2tutor/index.htm

so what i am aiming for is better redering time on effects were it does not have to have normals and spec aplied speeding up rendering . i am not sure x10 can render all the options avalable.
but to get effects were you dont need to have full LOD.
