Thought this might interest some people, it's Bungie's 20th Anniversary, and this video's essentially a chronicle/treasure trove of their business.

Personally I think it's pretty awesome, as a Halo fan. Covers early Bungie making Marathon right up to what's coming after Halo, (well, it's hinted, they can't actually tell us yet.) Talks with people like Rooster Teeth, I think it's essentially a massive pat-on-the-back for Bungie and it's fanbase:

I saw this there. I'm a massive Bungie fan, so I watched the whole thing, and then decided to replay the series.

Argh I love game company documentation videos showing history in the making.
The '20 years ago' shots look a lot like the state I'm living in at the moment.

Oh it so is. It's basically Bungie saying how deservedly awesome they are, and how 343 Insudtries won't match it.

Which sadly, they won't anyway.

I watched the video up to the ending of Halo 2 (never played after that one), and I enjoyed it. I always find it interesting to see how a large company with ground breaking games gets started. Then after watching this I watched the making of Oblivion videos and well, it's been a good day

My pleasure I think the videos were released with the 5th anniversary edition of Oblivion.

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread a bit

I don't know why anyone would be upset about 343 taking over - Anniversary is showing that they have some serious artistic talent, the videos make them seem very into Halo (that's likely on purpose but that doesn't mean it isn't true) and franky I don't much care for Reach.

I personally am optimistic about Halo's future.

I'm not...it's not 343 Industries, it's Microsot. They'll put it through the wringer for every dime they can gather, squeezing out everything that made Halo great in the first place.

I mean for one, neither Marty O'Donnell or Michael Salvatori will be worknig on the soundtrack. That's a killer for me.

Just like every other video game company. I've seen more than enough Tom Clancy titles, more that enough CoD titles, more than enough Assassins Creed titles. They make what sells.

Honestly I've had it with Bungie. I used to be a big fan, lived on Halo CE when it came out, and loved the others. However now that I'm not a raging fanboy of them I've noticed a hint of arrogance in their styles. They don't listen to their community and outright ignore their suggestions when they actually go to tweak the game.

The Bungie forums are demanding a title update for Reach and they aren't even acknowledging that and I'm pretty disappointed about that.

I'm looking forward to what 343 can do, and I can't wait for CE: Anniversary.

Yes, it is me.

Microsoft needs a flagship. They aren't going to just drop it, it is what made the Xbox what it is.

Just because there are a bunch of Mario games, or Final Fantasy games, or Call of Duty games, or Resident Evil games, doesn't mean that all the newest ones are bad. And if anyone tries to tell me Nintendo doesn't try to squeeze every dollar out of their in-house IPs...

Everyone gets so worked up when something doesn't end with the 3rd game, or if another studio takes over (even if the new studio has many of the people from the old one). Suddenly it's "all about the money". I'm not aiming this at anyone in particular - it just tends to be what happens. Yet people seem perfectly willing to overlook this in some series.

What really matters is the people behind the game. Halo is a rich universe - many games have rich universes. There are a lot of
stories to tell about the real world, why can't there be a lot of stories within Halo?

I'd have to disagree with this. They aren't the only composers in the world, and frankly, their latest work on Reach totally lacked the Halo vibe (not to say it isn't good, but it didn't feel like Halo to me). 343 just needs someone who is dedicated and creative - someone who will produce something fresh but interweave the classic Halo feel and theme.

That said, this is all totally my opinion, and you have every right to disagree. But just remember that Microsoft dollars have been behind every release.

EDIT: @ToastyFresh, you nailed some of my feelings as well.

Fair doos, but I'm holding back my money and not buying it on release. I already got disappointed by Halo 3, and this one's fairly removed from the norm.

I mean look at the last time Bungie handed the reins to another company, Halo Wars happened, and happened so hard Enesmble liquidated. (The same Ensemble that gave us Age of Empires, that amazing masterpiece.)

I thought they marked Ensemble for the axe before Halo Wars was even finished? I could be wrong of course. Personally I liked Halo Wars (and have a lot of friends that do as well), but I'm not a big RTS follower.

And I absolutely loved Halo 3 - out of curiosity, what did you find lacking?

Massive marketing campaign that made it seem like an epic, all-out war for Earth.

I mean the announce trailer and that sculpture thingy they made, they didn't even really make it into the game. The announce trailer made it look like humanity was already dead, the covenant had won and not even the Chief could stop them. The end result was Hood attacking a god-race's warship with a fleet barely capable of damaging a covenant warship.

how can being sad about leaving a project behind in any way shape or form count as "giving the middle finger to the next developers"?

yes sure they dont like microsoft, but they love halo from the bottom of their hearts

I'm pretty sure that when you work on something for a decade, you feel sad to see it go. That being said, I can't wait to see Bungie's next endeavour.

Maybe because they aren't in charge of Halo Reach anymore. 343 Industries is, as of July 7th I believe.

revelations ~~
and i have a vast memory of a bit more ingamish...

no wait, it's a cinematic.. but the "enemies" who are out to pursue him in that one is just as stupid as in the past games

oh no doubt the cinematics will disappoint, like in brotherhood, they said the whole game would be cinematic, and (un)surprisingly, the bit they showed at E3 was the only bit like it

I don't see the AI as a problem, they follow well. It's the combat that's the problem, since it's mostly turn-based. Killstreaks mix it up

NOW WILL YOU PLEASE STOP GOING OFF-TOPIC

also called BAD AI
they stand there and dont do ANYTHING productive, you can stand and wait atleast 10 seconds and none of those 5+ guards will try to attack.. it's soooo lame.

YES SURE OKAY
