Hi all, I recently upgraded my graphics card drivers to the newest version to try to get a game working, in the process my display changed to 1024*768 instead of the usual 1440*900.

Obviously, this looks horrible and is really annoying. So I went to the screen resolution bit in control panel and tried to set it back to 1440*900 but the option just isn't there. I'ts not in the Nvidia control panel either. My card is a GeForce 8600GT.

Any suggestions as to what do to?

Have you looked in the Nvidia Control Panel, under Display. Select Change Resolution and then click on "Customize...". There should be a check box saying "Enable resolutions not exposed by the display".
Then you should be able to select you resolution in the big list above that check box, or create your own resolution.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, but I had a look in there, the box is already checked but the res isn't there. I've also tried adding it as custom but even after a lot of playing around with the settings, I could only get that resolution to work when it's really blurry. I've tried different scanning modes, refresh rates etc but the only results I can get are blurry or a "display not supported" error thrown up by my monitor :/

i am having the same problem. my gtx295 does not support my monitors native SXGA resolution 1400x1050 (i hate you nvidia) so it downsizes the resolutio to 1024x786 which is the maximum of what it cas set it to (i hate you even more nvidia) Radeons never had problems with this monitor i checked 3 of my radeon (even the crappiest X800XL)see the 1400x1050 even without the drivers. and this resolution is not even listed in the nvidia driver, and it refuses to create a custom resolution as well.

I know this resolution is a bit non standard but there are monitors that have it and there is NO REASON why nvidia sholdnt be able to support it especially a GTX295!

Are you sure you installed the drivers? Or maybe you installed the wrong ones

That's weird, I managed to fix mine by changing the cable between my monitor and the Gfx card (I had a switch box thing in between so that I could switch between my PC and my xbox, so I had 2 VGA cables involved). Does windows report your monitor to be something like "generic plug and play monitor"? If so that might be your prblem.

pagan, the issue is with your monitor driver, not your video card driver. Find the make and model of your monitor and install the approrpiate driver and see if the problem fixes itself.

AMD Supports a ton on res's. I use a mini monitor for ref's pictures while i'm working which is at 1400x768 (little wired but handy)

You just need to get the manufacturer drivers.
