Untitled Sci-fi Project

(DTO Competition 2011)

Most Recent Update (August 15th, 2011)

Developer
Kravenwolf

Story
TBA

Project Overview
As a personal challenge (and to really try to defy the odds with my entry ), the majority of this game will be made using only what's available to me from the stock media libraries and scriptbank. I won't be adding any custom level assets or retextures to this one. Everything that you see that makes up the level design in the screenshots I'll be updating this thread with are the same assets everyone else has access to in their own libraries.

This is just something I've always wanted to try with the stock media. The primary reason for this game is still the actual competition, so there will be some 'custom' additions to spice up the game. To clarify;

What's Stock?

-The engine, V1.18 (no mod)

-All 3D level assets including segments, entities, items, characters, and weapons.

-Audio (Ambience music, sound effects, enemy sounds, weapons, item pickups, etc).

-All scripts and effects (a few exceptions may be made such as making enemies compatible with waypoints, etc; TBA).

What's not Stock?

- Loading/Title/Game Over/Win screens.

- In-game HUDS and weapon crosshairs.

- Full screen shader.

- Water

Screenshots (Beta)

Wow! Is that full screen shader Bond's Filmgrain?

It looks awesome! Hopefully this will be as successful as Wehtam's (Sorry, probably spelled that wrong) stock only game.
Looking forward to finding out more about the game and seeing development.

Cheers.

My god will you ever produce something that is not good looking? XD

Im kidding of course! Great job as always Kraven!

I do feel like you will hit a point which will make you stop this game, because there is only so much you can do with the stock media..

But i have hopes that this will turn out great! Good Luck!

Hello there,

pretty nice idea for a competition project you got there! There you can see: Even stock media can look pretty nice when the lighting is matching.
I wish you good luck with that project. May you win the competition.

Best wishes,
TheK

Pretty handsome game you got going.

Your signature has been eaten by a llama. Sorry; that's just the way it goes.

Usually I neither comment WIPs nor screenshots.

But I have to admit the concept is very intriguing.

It also could put a lot of developers to shame who constantly rant, that the FPSC engine is too crappy and that there is no quality media available to make an FPSC game look good enough, when you are doing it even with stock media

And the first screenshotsare indeed very convincing - looking forward to see more.

In case you find my grammar and spelling weird ---> native German speaker ^^

Yes it is, with a few tweaked values I made in Dark Shader

Well this is my DTO entry so I won't stop the game, though if I do run out of options, I'll most likely just rethink my 'stock only' concept, and fire up Blender

Thanks, Storyteller. Gonna try to get a beta/demo going as soon as I have a short level put together. Figure it'll be easier to squash FPS Creator's bugs and build errors with a smaller test build than a full game.

@Everyone else, thanks Hockeykid and I have been busy with the anticipation of AppGameKit, so I haven't done much with this project over the last few days aside from a few new HUD/script additions. Just something to add a bit more to the gameplay;

Development Journal Day #2 (August 15th)--

(Script/HUD Addition) Added trigger HUD to water room to warn the player the oxygen tanks are explosive.

(Script/HUD Addition) Changed Blaster ammo count/numeric to individual round images that deplete when rounds are fired from the gun.

(Script/HUD Addition) Changed health HUD to play series of images that change depending on remaining player health (based on Fallout 3 HUD). Will add blood splatters in refined version.
