Well... I have a 400 DPI wireless mouse right now, and I want to upgrade. Partly because the DPI is bad, and partly because the wireless reciever is pretty bad (short range, so if it drops from my desk to the floor while I'm playing a game, it's over!)

I'm thinking of this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104318
it looks like it has good accuracy, and enough side buttons to be handy without overdoing it.

I'd also need a mouse pad, but I was just going to get one of those $5-$10 microfiber mousepads.

I would buy this right now, but I have 0 experience with mice, and I'd like to know what people here use.

I have a mouse pad with a gel cushion for my wrist, used it for seven years now, comfy as heck and I'd never change it.

As far as a mouse? I don't know anything about them, had mine for six years...it works, I'm happy.

Are Razor Boomslangs still regarded as the 'standard' gaming mouse?

I have had a gaming mouse for a while and I love it. Sooo accurate. and you only have to move the mouse about an inch to move all the way across the screen (if you like it that way)

Well, I have a cheap one from logitech and I still make it up to the top of the score in most games. All those Progamerzzz need to do some serious growing up in my book.

I make serious coffee - so strong it wakes up the neighbors.

Yeh, I average 3rd to 1st with this six-year old Dell setup on TF2. A good enough artist can make agood piece from some sticks and a rock, while others have to compensate with fancy stuff.

Get a Logitech laser mouse. Your best bet.

My plan for today: 1. Wake up. 2. Live 3. Go to sleep.

You'd think so, and I thought it would drive me crazy too, but it actually helps ya' move it spot on. Agile AND accurate, doesn't really matter though

CoffeeGrunt, having to only move the mouse an inch is sooooooooo helpful. On my dad's rig, he has the sensitivity turned pretty low, and I suck with sniping on it. On my own rig the sensitivity is turned to max and I once went 19 kills in 1 life with sniper. High sensitivity is awesome.

I got my mouse today (the one in the first post), and I have to admit that it doesn't make all that much of a difference gaming! Since its wired it isn't dependent on the position of the receiver, so that's nice.

I have a wristpad now, but no mouse pad. I think I could have invested those $50 in a much better place, but hey - I won't have to get a new mouse for a long time now! (I have my wireless one which is being substituted for this, and another crappy one which only works on a mousepad, which I don't have)

[edit]
oh yeah, and the adjustable sensitivity is nice! The mouse can also change between smooth scrolling mouse wheel, and clicky scrolling, but the smooth scrolling feature is pretty useless.

I think you'll find that a more expensive mouse is better able to handle sudden jerks properly. I find the tactile action is also much better on more expensive mice.

I have the exact same one as Rampage. Probably cost $20 or so and works just fine for games. Well enough that at one time I was #1 in UT online CTF rankings.

I use the basic mouse that came with my PC a few years ago. It still works. I can't see paying $50 for a few extra buttons.

Fixed.

Graphic artist, yes. Though I still will not invest in one as there's little need when you can hotkey in functions on the keyboard.

Gamers? Lol wut. It's like those idiots who pay the £140 for a mouse cause they think it'll do them any good. Same with these fast action keyboards. fools to the end.

I really see no reason in buying a mouse.

OH WELL THANKS FOR TELLING ME THIS NOW.
j/k xD

Hey, what can I say. It's more accurate, is wired (so it has perfect connectivity), the sensitivity buttons are really nice for playing games like hammerfight, and it has adjustable weighting which gives the mouse a nice feel.

Though I don't see a reason in ever spending that much money on a mouse because it's not needed whatsoever... Those are soooo cool looking lol.

I have a Logitech G500, it has the most comfortable shape and there are buttons to adjust the DPI, kinda like an on the fly sensitivity adjustment in FPS games, useful for precision work.

My mouse has no brand, is made in china and has it's patents pending, i've been using it for 7 years now, though I believe it's way older than that. It need cleaning every 3 weeks and sometimes it disasembles itself.

If you hadn't noticed, I have a mouse with a ball in it

If you sit 90% at the computer, playing games you might aswell get yourself a expensive, very comfy keyboard and mouse....

Yes but a comfy mouse doesn't have to cost excess of £20. I'm currently using a Advent which cost £12

Lasted 2 years of brutal use, never had a issue and it works to the finest of precision's in both graphic work and gaming. Tried a Android gamer mouse £80, was a present. I kindly asked them to take it back for a refund. Not that i wasn't grateful, i just didn't want them to be ripped off at there expense for me.

I use a logitech basic black keyboard. Admittedly the internal wires frayed after it was launched by my cat, bit of solder, wire tape. Good as new and works after 4 years. Keys haven't even faded. Even the hotkeys, QWERTY and WASD. Just seems stupid to fork out so much for crap when you can buy internal parts that's more likely to give you an edge over them. Bit more Ram, maybe a better processer, hell a better Gpu with the £100 you save.

depends, matter of opinion: some like lots of buttons on their mouse, reducing time spent on keyboard, some wants a very responsive mouse etc etc.
I just go with Razer seriess myself, since i find them convineint: responsive, high DPI, perfect amount of buttons feels good etc..

and i used to use a logitech G15 keyboard, because of that screen: it showed me music, i could just click the keyboard to change song and SEE on the keyboard which song played (very convinient whilke gaming) I could see wow stats, processing power ETC good stuff
and it had a nice micro command button setup, which i never used... xD but the keyboard is really REALLY comfy

and for the record, I am a man.

I have a normal mouse except it has two extra buttons on the side. I mostly use those to go back and forth when browsing the net though. When gaming, I always use keyboard shortcuts cuz it's easier for me.

The only thing I can recommend though when buying a new mouse is to get a wired one. The wireless mouses I've used have always had really bad reception and lag alot.

I have a cheap wired HP laser (or is it optical? I never knew the difference) mouse and for the most part it's served me well for general use and gaming. The only problem is that when gaming the mouse will occasionally think I'm throwing it across the room, and my character will look up at the sky and spin around. That's really annoying. Other than that it couldn't be better, apart from perhaps the addition of a few buttons.

I use both Microsoft and Logitech mice and I've had that "look up at the sky and spin around" issue on them as well. Don't know what it is but it's obviously not brand dependent.
