Hi,
I am trying to find a game which me and my friend both really like.

We both like each others game but prefer playing our own, i want to find a game that we can both be addicted too

I like FPS games like Call Of Duty, Battlefield, etc

and he likes strategy games like: Minecraft, Carrier command, etc

We both like playing Magicka thats quite fun.

Can anyone recommend a game which has elements of strategy and FPS in?

Thanks,
Alex

I know star wars: battlefront 2 had a game mode which should fit this. Each player started with a mothership, and attacked planets with it. When a planet was attacked, it went to first person and that decided who won, then back to strategy.

TF2...because everyone loves it.

Also Metro 2033. It's got some great action scenes, but you need to be extremely careful with ammo, and stealth is a well-done feature for the combat scenes. So it's a bit of FPS, and a bit of strategy with it.

Yeah but it has no multiplayer (and I think that's what the OP wants).

Battlefield 2 has some strategy elements if you play as the team commander.

Sacrifice! It's 3rd person though, but still one of the greatest RTS hybrid games I've ever played.

The there is Firefall, which is an FPS with minor RTS skills. Collecting resources, building structures.

Mass Effect is an FPS RPG... so maybe, also Fallout come under that category.

Homeworld's an RTS but it's epic so you should try it anyway

I agree with gorlock. It doesn't seem any better than you can get with CS:S or Garry's Mod, and Shadowrun is better (though not free). Not saying it's bad, I'm just saying that there's other games I'd rather waste my time on

Yeah it was free on steam so I got it and I got on and I couldn't play online whatsoever. So I played against the AI and it was kind of annoying, fun, boring all at the same time.

TF2: HATS!
I usually play old-school fps's and I'm not sure your friend would like Painkiller.
I don't play many strategy games, so I can't think of ones to recommend.

ArmA 2 has army management, FPS action, flight, armor, etc. Just... don't get shot. You'll die pretty much no matter what.
There's also a free version available. Definitely worth a download.

You could try Killing Floor. It's purely FPS zombie waves but requires supreme teamwork. It's about as awesome as an FPS game can possibly be.

I think someone mentioned it already... but definitely take a look at Nuclear Dawn too. That might be right up both of your ally ways.

Zombie panic source is a pretty good choice too if you want FPS and strategy. Zombies vs survivors, the good old stuff.

TF2 Because everybody loves it.
I also recommend you try Garry's Mod and half-life. And ofcourse the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series.

My plan for today: 1. Wake up. 2. Live 3. Go to sleep.

I tried playing one of the STALKER games, but.... well, after about an hour it became so mind numbingly boring that I stopped playing it. I didn't even think to myself "I'm going to stop playing", I just didn't load it back up as it never crossed my mind to play it again.

Will check out Nuclear Dawn, never heard of it. FPS+RTS = Epic Win Genre

If consoles count: Valkyria Chronicles is godlike. It's a Turn-based Strategy/TacticalRPG. You play it like a normal TBS, but you actually control your units in real-time (of course, each unit has its own Action Points pool) after selecting them (TPS, not FPS actually). If you like or at least have nothing against manga/anime stylization, you may end up loving this game. The first one (the only one without any multi) is exclusive to PS3, VC2&3 are exclusive to PSP (they have multi, but so far, only VC2 was relased in the west).
At least check out the videos. IMO it's one of the best games from this generation of consoles and the only thing I remember that can be called a "Shooter/strategy hybrid"...

Make games, not war.

But how? No way on earth could anyone find a STALKER game boring, let alone in 1 hour. Son, I am dissapoint.

AHAH I FOUND IT!

this is an XBOX only game, although it might be playable under an emulator.

Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders

It's a combo RTS and 3rd person hack n slash. One of the BEST games I have ever played.

Apparently there's a new one in the works for release some time this year (W00T). From what I've heard, the newest released one (in '07 called "Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom") sucks, and is 0% rts, 100% hack and slash grinding.

It's an amazing game. You have to use strategy to survive. It's awesome when you're on the ground and can help out your troops by slaughtering hordes of enemies, but once you get into more strategy elements, it becomes way better than a normal hack n slash (elements like mines, catapults, archers, flying units, mounted units [like mounted scorpions], or massive units [like a 100 foot tall thing that shoots goo balls at you])
