Everyone, the world has stopped turning and we should all take a second in our busy lives to turn off the music we're listening to, turn off the tv, do what you may, because something has just happened that will either stop you in your tracks crying or reveal you are not a living being. One of the most iconic characters in the world, known by everyone, loved by many, loved by me, has passed away. Today I got Batman issue 473, and... there's no easy way to say this, Bruce Wayne is dead.
He died originally in the graphic novel "In Blackest Night" mostly about Green Lantern, along with many others. It was revealed he wasn't really dead when at the end of the novel they find out it was an alternate reality. But after Bruce Wayne's final return to Gotham, he found out who was running the town now. Dick Grayson, first robin who early on quit to become Nightwing, has taken the cowl and the third robin, Damian, Batman's son, is now Robin. Technically Damian (Bruce's son) was Robin before, but only for a matter of days before in the timeline Blackest Night happened. Seeing the two so happy together, Bruce gladly went to Dick and gave him permission to run the town, then realized that he was in the afterlife. Bruce was dead. He found his dead body and a memory came to him of Superman holding his molding body, saying he died for us. Bruce faded away, and we had no idea if the alternate reality was still going on, because why would they kill of freaking Bruce Wayne? And they never told us if it was real.
It's real.
The comic was called storybook endings, about the evolution of Batman, at the end revealing everything that happened is permanent. So now stop and think. Batman. Dead. So many movies and games and TV Shows. People like me dedicated to him... and now he's just.
He's just dead. I thought when Tim Drake got hit by a car they were crossing the line. But this is... I am not even partially letting this sink in and I'm still crying. I will still talk about Batman because there still is one, but although Dick Grayson deserves the cowl, and he will be Batman, he will never be
the Batman. And rest assured Bruce Wayne will still be in the movies, because think about it. Most of that didn't have Robin, they don't care about accuracy. People know Batman as Bruce Wayne, which is why it's so shocking.
I know I had the Addict Club and Batman Arkham City, but I think this deserves it's own thread.
Rest in peace.
EDIT: This story has not been researched. It has been a long time going on this death, and this how I interpreted what little they showed us. There was little to no explanation, but Batman is dead and that's all that matters.
