@ TheZachadoodle - Nice concept drawings! Do you happen to have a scanner?

@ swissolo - I went through your code and kind of understand what it does. I'll comment it a bit and put it into the project

I think what's missing is a solid guiding hand. Let's try and introduce an online timeplan list. Here's a screenshot:

I want anyone who's doing anything on this project to click the link in my signature, and put their name into that list. You don't need an account or any sort of registration, it's completely free.

Anything labeled open is free for anyone to take on board. If you want to do something new, simply make a new entry.

Filled in aswell. I'll come back later to layout, most likely all the media required, as code is a bit more specified and on demand. Among other bits and pieces.

Now, I am spinning map layouts in my head, trying to get some consistent map ideas before I put anything down on paper, but I have a question of confirmation. Is this multiplayer or singpleplayer? It hasn't really been specified throughout the thread.

both.
An expansion on the original towers idea, as well as closing it off in a bit of competetive/cooperative with monsters a spew.

Ok. So it should be a map playable by one person or a coop, or a competitive multiplayer? But the same map for each, so it is going to have to be flexible?

I think the towers piece of the game can just be closed off in sections for whatever other uses, or altered. So a little flexibility is important, but we can move parts and pieces around a bit.

Ok, here is a rough block-out idea of the center dome. The four main paths are just large enough to fit a vehicle. the other paths are foot path sized. I figure in between the foot paths we could put vegetation, like a garden or farm. Just a rough idea. In the center is the beam of light.

Sounds good. Also make room for a shop to be placed so the player can buy upgrades. Remember though that not much fighting will occur on that map because it will be used as a "home base", a place where you are able to teleport to the main levels.

Perhaps it should be that you could level up your weaponary, armor, and stats.

Also why not have it be that it gets harder for each level of the tower you go up on.

A goal here would be 2 hours of gameplay for each tower.

Looks like I am aiming for modular construction then. I'll keep that in mind. For this center map, in multiplayer, I figure we can make the beam some kind of objective, like one team keeps it on while the other tries to turn it off. Though I can understand it not being a point of conflict often in single player.

Not at all, I just have a lot to do before I can return to this project (School, NaGaCreMo, top secret project, Mega Mash Mothers). I vowed to continue on this project in my New Years Resolutions, and I'll stick to that I don't know what swissolo's plans are, but hopefully he can step in for a while

I've been having worse wrist pains/carpal tunnel symptoms than usual and have had to back off in my free time, hence the hand full of scattered, 2 fingered posts. Fortunately, everyone seems to have an idea of what they're working on, and how, so I've left it a little empty here. I'm still planning to fill in our chart more, aswell as put together a full document of exactly what the project consists of, through and through, because I'm not positive everyone is fully on the same ground. The conceptual stuff isn't a problem of course (which is why I really prefer this position) These issues always come up, my work is always in bursts. For now, I think we should still be sailing pretty smooth, at least until anyone is finished with their little bits of work. If anyone has any indepth questions, just ask. I check here frequently, or, we can use the google docs chat on the timeplan if we need to.
So yes, I'll be here.

Its moving. Everyone is working on their respective parts. In what would you say you are more specialized at, art or programming? That way we can fill you in on the correct piece of the chart and get you some work. Thanks for volunteering to help.

TheComet is a bit busy at the moment, so we don't have access to the lastest code without bugging him. It would be great if you could model some weaponry/creatures and such, I'll link our list of them.

Edit: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=188447&b=8&msg=2290227#m2290227 the tabs listing models should be what you're looking for I think the only one already taken is the phaser... the rest should be available.

Just a bump to find out how everything is coming along. Since I am working with quite a polygon budget, I'm working on some normal map techniques to help keep the environment detailed. You will see some stuff from me at some point. Also, a question: Would using an array to instance grass or plants over an area be more efficient than just basic placement? Just wondering.

For this I think it would be most efficient to use instanced objects, which are placed on the terrain using a weighted detail map. The map can have four channels (red, green, blue, alpha), so that would enable us to control the placement of 4 different detail objects per map. It's completely up to you which objects you assign to which colour, the general rule is:

black = no density
red = highest density of object #1
green = highest density of object #2
blue = highest density of object #3
alpha = highest density of object #4

Anything in between varies the density of the corresponding objects.

I'll start working on this and see what I can do.

I'd love to continue, but like I said else where (so I'll restate it here), I don't want to dedicate myself fully without seeing some dedication from the group. Comet's clearly in no matter what, but there's a reason it's open source I'll just start right off where I left off if I see any progress, but there hasn't been any yet. (other than Comet and more C0met) Not that I don't trust you all, but I can't trust randoms from the internet on the first go
*swissolo is dormant*

Well, I can be a full time 3D modeler. All I need is a list of assignments and I'll probably get them done in the next couple of days. I'll post some of my work if you like.

Here's a decent 3422 poly Phaser Gun. I need to go in and do the high poly though.

Since I hold the position of art director of scenery i guess you would be my responsibility. Right now I am still drawing level plans and figuring out styles and concepts, but as soon as I have work to do I will let you know.

Unfortunately I must admit that I have had little time to work on this project, and will have little time in the future. If any programmer is reading this and would like to take over, feel free to do so. The latest version of the code is as per usual attached in the first post of this thread.

Sorry about this.
