They are now ranked the number 1 Test Cricket team in the world!!

I had to be be a party pooper, but I'm sure that regression to the mean will take effect next year. And then we'll all talk about how they are the worst ever English Test team.

Lets hope they beat the odds and retain the title for long enough to be classed as the best.

English, but not a cricket fan

Why didn't the Indians distract them with their lovely food?

I was forced to watch this match for the last few days, as I work in a TV shop, and every TV had it on.

I tried to hide in the hifi department as much as possible, as I still don't understand the rules. At all.

The rules are simple;

Man with big willow stick hits leather covered ball as hard as he can and runs backwards and forwards between sticks stuck in the ground, while lots of other men try to catch leathered covered ball...

A Famous Man once said:

No idea what either is. But congratz for the 4-0. With any sport it's a huge deal for a team. At least I understand that much.

I think the problem that non-cricket nations have is to understand that it takes a week to get that score.

Alternatively you could say - I think the problem that non-cricket nations have is to understand that a team can score hundreds in a day, and still lose 4-0 at the end of the week.

Aaah, so made a thread about it aswell huh? LOL... well it was hardly what you could call a "good game/series"... I mean, you guys wiped the floor with the Indians so...

Just wait till next time Bruce... well kick your ass like how we kicked it ein the World Cup And watch the Nokia T-20... should be fun

Actually... half way through the match I ditched my home team and rooted for Britain I mean, seriously, England's 500-3 and then India comes in and bats 300-9 . Thats not saying much about one of the teams

Thats kind of like how I switched sides in the middle of the Vikings qualifying game last year... actually this game was slightly worse (that just because the Vikings have and always probably will suck...). Oh well, us Minnesotans still love em

Cheers,
Anayar

Quote: "Cricket
Cricket, another common sport in Commonwealth countries, is not a popular sport in the U.S. Many amateur cricket leagues have been formed by Indian, Pakistani, Australian, South African, English and Caribbean (more specifically West Indian) immigrants, and as a result, the sport has made limited inroads into the mainstream sports community because of a large influx of migrants from cricketing countries who make up almost 16 million of the American population. Cricket used to be the most popular sport in America during the 18th century, 19th century and early 20th century, when it suffered a rapid decline. In fact the first intercollegiate tournament in America was a cricket tournament. The first annual Canada vs. USA cricket match, played since the 1840s, was attended by 10,000 spectators at Bloomingdale Park in New York. The USA vs. Canada cricket match is the oldest international sporting event in the modern world, predating even today's Olympic Games by nearly 50 years. USA participated in the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy where they were comprehensively beaten in matches against Australia and New Zealand."
From Wikipedia about American sports.

Interesting eh? On the other hand no-one really gives a monkeys here unless we are winning something.

Football all the way (sigh... soccer.... feel sick saying that...)

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

It's even harder to get your head around when you realise that it took 4 matches, each lasting a week to get a 4-0 series win!

Each Test series lasts for at least a couple of months, the longest being the famous England-Australia Ashes series, which lasts for 5 matches!

The nearest parallel I can think of in the States is the Baseball World Series, and even then, the games only last a day!

I must admit, I do prefer watching Test Matches to 20-20 one day matches. The one day matches are about getting as many runs as possible, in a set amount of time. Whereas the Test Matches require a more patient approach to run scoring, and trying to stay at the crease for as long as possible, to deny the other team the opportunity to score runs.
