So, I have a Linux Mint 9 Gnome ISO entitled "linuxmint-9-gnome-cd-i386.iso". How would I go about making a boot-able flash drive out of this. You know, something I can pop into a computer and then change the BIOS settings so it boots from the flash drive instead of the Windows Vista that's on the hard drive?

Is it as simple as placing the contents of the ISO file on the flash drive, or just the ISO file itself? I definitely wouldn't call myself an expert at this stuff, which is why I'm asking.

Please don't be awful. If I seem hopelessly confused then forgive me

no, an iso can't be loaded on a flash drive like that. This tool can help you load it on a flash drive:

http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
Or you can use this tool to burn it to a cd:
