Hey there fellow FPS-Creators!

This is my first forum post, but most certainly not my first visit to this amazingly useful site! Anyway, enough pointless information.

I was just curious to as if anyone could inform me regarding rigging a new texture to either an existing model, such as any of the Zombies from the Zombie Apocalypse pack, or any other released models.

I haven't played around with altering textures much, with the exception of opening some and changing colours, sharping and adjusting purchased ones. I know, by the look of this, that it's all a jumbled mess and probably not in the right positions (also, I am well aware it isn't saved to .dds and is currently .png, purely for user friendly download).

So, my question summed up is, can this texture be rigged to look "GOOD" on an existing model, or would I have to purchase a modeller's skill for this task?

This is for my game in long development, and would fit it PERFECTLY, as it is becoming quite a terrifying horror, I would truly appreciate ANY help in this endeavor.

Thank you in advance,
Woody376.

Greetings Woody376,
What it would require is a program that would allow you to import the model you want to use, and the skills to re-UV map the model as well as export that model as a .x. The texture looks great and would definitely look good in a project. A bit more difficult route would be to use the existing uv mapping of the model you wish to use by cutting and pasting parts from your texture to the original. i say this is more difficult since some parts may not match up as well. I hope that helps, but yes, the texture looks quite nice for a zombie game.

EDIT: Judging by the looks of it, is there an already existing model for this texture? It looks as if it's already set out well for a UV map. It may be just easier to rig the model for this texture to an existing preanimated zombie skeleton.

Hey Disturbing 13,

Thanks for the quick response! This texture was originally cut out of 'Land of the Dead', but I edited it quite a lot and pretty much just used the UV Map as a base and the skeleton ribs etc. for a nice template. I'm not sure much about re-UV mapping, or how to get hold of any models for the actual zombie in the game. I'm pretty noob at the whole thing, but do you think you could suggest any direct approach I could take? As in an actual program?

Thanks a lot!

Welcome to the forums. Try Milkshape. And UVMapper. You can use these apps to do what you are after. Fragmotion is also an option. Use the search below and you'll find plenty of tutorials.

Indeed, Cosmic is on the money. Those are the two modelers I use- Milkshape3d and Fragmotion. Both are modestly priced and fairly easy to learn. Some zombies that may be great for the layout you have are Rolfy's zombies, the layout is kinda similar. I'll see if I can find a link.

Edit-Thanks anayar, I was having a rough one trying to locate them.

Thanks a lot guys! I'll have a look into both those programs, I seem to be able to pick up stuff pretty quickly, and I'll have a play with Rolfy's zombies too!

Thanks for all the help, everyone!
