Me and my friend are organising a lan party in school,it wouldn't be a noobish thingy where 5 people would come, but a serious LAN party with sponsors, prizes and everything. The first step is to make a good plan and find the top games for a LAN.

So I am asking you, what games could we play? League of Legends and Call Of Duty 2/4 are kinda obvious, but what else?

Mount and Blade Warband. I bought it recently for a LAN. Loads of players supported, brilliant battles etc. Goes for about £5/copy at the moment.

Is multiplayer any better than singleplayer for that game? I played the singleplayer when it had the free weekend on steam, the gameplay mechanics just weren't very fun.

Screw a lan party, instead have a massive nerdgasm by having many games of TES Oblivion running at once

You awesome person. There's only five players left on that game, but it's still awesome.

I'm surprised, you liked Halo 2 Laz?

I still think it's the best of the whole series.

I would recommend the original GTA top-down games.. they're great for LAN.

It's 1.27 MB, not 1.5+ though. I'll re-size it anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I guess some of those games wouldn't really suit a modern LAN,no offense but Red Eye,I highly doubt anyone would come to a LAN where people would play Halo CE. Counter Strike seems like a good option, maybe TF2?

Uneducated opinion is uneducated.

This game is still pretty sizable on PC, even today.

I hit 4 player death-match with friends and took bets. Invested uncountable amount of hours in that game. Hell I even have the steel box version. The game play was brilliant and top of the line back then. I can now literally run through the entire game in my head start to finish, including cut scenes. When you play co-op legendary you sorta learn where everything is and how to kill it quickly.

Halo 3 had its quirks but wasn't as fun online as 2. Though the infection map, road to omega had so many hours sunk into it, hosted a 24 hours straight game, just on that map, on 360. but yeah halo games are a must. Halo 3 may be pretty good for infection games. Would defiantly reccomend the map.

Halo 1 Xbox style lan was just amazing.
Its a shame most of my gaming friends (Some of them being my oldest friends) are dotted around the country, I don't think anything beats gaming with friends in the same room.
I was looking forward to Halo Anniversary, but I just don't think we would be able to capture that same awesomness we got from when we first played it on lan.

My friends at Uni are far too sensible to play video games.

Is guitar hero already out of fashion?

I second GTA top down games (GTA2 is awesome on multiplayer, but needs to run on a wired lan to get it to play right).

Killing Floor
Warcraft3
Starcraft
Minecraft
Dead Island

Dead Island is awesome, better than L4D I'd say. Depends on how many people are coming I suppose.

waaagh at people comparing dead island to l4d xD
DI = every zombie is lethal and can kill, focused on melee combat with half shoed ranged combat
L4D = hordes of meaingless zombies focused on ranged combat with half shoed melee

theyre pretty much the opposites of each other...

but yeah: Dead island is probably the best zombie game i have EVERY played.. along side with killing floor^^

and for the record, I am a man.

Jedi knights academy! old but a lot more fun at a lan party than any counterstrike or halo (i find FPS games quite dull and boaring at lan parties)

never tried it in lan (noone wants to play it with me) CARMAGEDDON2. If you know why this game is amazing, youwill know why it would be fun to play it at a lan party.

to give you an idea about how fun carmageddon 2 is here is a tribute to the game i made a few years back (modded the hell out of that game!)

also for anyone here who loves "Killswitch Engage", youll like this video.

Racing games are actually kinda fun at lan parties. I dont like racing games, infact i hate racing games but FLATOUT2 or FLATOUT ULTIMATE CARNAGE is an exeption. The most fun racing/ smash derby game ever! Next to carmageddon2, its gotta be my favorite racing game.

GTA SA multiplayer, idk about lan among a few friends but there are really fun multiplayer servers for it out there where you and your friends can have fun with other people. The roleplaying servers are the best because there are hundreds of people on and they all have to perform whatever job they choose, so there are Real cops, Real orgonised crime people, real drug dealers (well they are people roleplaying as drug dealers no real drugs involved hehe) Basically just like regular GTA SA, but instead of NPCs Everyone is real people playing online and getting away from cops in multiplayer is a lot more fun when the cop isnt an NPC but a real live player!

GTA4 has some Lan capabilities i think. could also be fun.

I dont know about STALKER, but i had a lot of fun playing that online, just because of really large maps, a wide verioty of guns and supplies, made it one of the most fun online FPS games i played!

Also, Morrowind and Oblivion, have some multiplayer mods which could proove fun if you are sucessfull at getting them up and running (i wasnt.)

Also Civ4 online with like 4/5 of your friends can be fun, (if everyone has a lot of free time) I sortof enjoyed it with my buddies back in the day

dont hate people who rip you off, cheat and get away with it, learn from them

The campaign is awesome, every time Sergeant Johnson opens his mouth, the script writer should receieve a cookie.

Also, at the tme, the Covenant leg of the game just exploded the game from a generic scifi shootup to one with a little depth to your enemy.

I'd like to say I'm optimistic, but since Bungie left the helm of Halo, I just doubt it'll have the same feel. They'll either try and fail to reacheive it, or go with their own style that may or may not feel right. Who knows?

Didn't read all the suggestions above and some have been said already, but just something something. So:

Team Fortress 2
Dead Island
Left 4 Dead 2
Zombie Panic! Source (a good one, the graphics may not be gold, but once you get into it, it's hell of a lot of fun)
Halo: Reach
Killing Floor
Lead and Gold
Red Dead: Redemption

Quote: "Dead Island is awesome, better than L4D I'd say"

Even though I'm a hardcore L4D2 fan, and that game is really close to my heart, I'd have to say I agree with you.

Quote: "Dead island is probably the best zombie game i have EVERY played.. along side with killing floor"

Killing Floor is simple and fun, but wouldn't put it next to Dead Island, propably not even L4D2, but that's my opinion, and I know it sucks

FINALLY!
(or QuakeWorld if you want to be hardcore/oldschool)
Also Unreal Tournament 2004.
Starcraft 2 (or Broodwar, don't remember if the sequel has LAN mutiplayer).
Battlefield, but dunno which one...
Counter-Strike
Warhammer 40.000 DoW with add-ons.
I have to admit too, Jedi Academy was one of the best MP games I've played...
While not LAN, Guitar Hero/Rock Band and fighting games (Tekken, Soul Calibur) are good for a tourney (The thing is, they need a low-lag TV, preferably CRT. And while I think that GH/RB can be calibrated, I'm not so sure about Tekken).

Make games, not war.

Hmmm-... Something that hasn't been suggested yet would be Section 8: Prejudice. It's really fun to be blasting people away and landing on someone's face from a spaceship Nothing more satisfying than ramming someone's head down into his stomach with your iron fists when you drop from orbit, lol. It's not a very original game though, but it does what it does, very well
