This came up in a completely sobre conversation I was having today, and I thought it was actually pretty intriguing.

Basically, before you die of aging, you are offered the chance to listen to one, last song of your request. What would that song be?

It was interesting, because my friends being mostly metal fans, didn't pick any metal songs. All the results actually surprised the heck out of me, so I figured it'd be interesting to see whether people wanna ride out on a gut-wrenching guitar solo, or gracefully pass with some orchestral tunes.

Hopefully noone posts dubstep. Imagine the last sound of your life being "wubwobwubwubwobwub."

But this a surprisingly personal question, because it reveals alot about your real taste in music.

And mine...I really don't know.

I'd have to go for 'Queen - Who Wants to Live Forever' that, or 'Rufus Wainwright - Hallelujah'

This is a very interesting topic you've struck upon.

It would have to be one of three;

U2 - With or Without You, Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars, or Manic Street Preachers - Design for Life (or their cover of Suicide is Painless, the theme from M*A*S*H* lol)

That's what my friends said, because you don't just want a song you like. It needs to be something meaningful, that you love, and not just 'til another song comes along.

I have a shortlist of about five, of all different genres that I just can't boil down. Yet, even then none of them feel quite right.

My choice is obvious:

There's no greater tune to play at a funeral. Would it be disrespectful to the mourners? I would like to think it'd put a smile on people's faces.

Well, if this thread would've come up some months ago... my answer probably would've been "Queen - Don't stop me now" (especially for the funeral).

However, since I've heard that song way too often now, I wouldn't want that to play on my funeral, neither listen to it before I die, but rather one of these:

It isn't so much the song at your funeral, so much as the last song you'd want to hear personally, before dying.

I would say Johnny Cash - Hurt. He's pretty religious and I'm not, but his version of that song is perfect for introspection, and ultimately, that's what you'll be doing when listening to your last song.

Is there a never ending song? Or at least one that goes on for like a month or more? Maybe something with a 12 hour drum solo? I'd have to do a little research.

If I had to pick one right now...... The Barney song. That would make me want to die.

Brian.

I don't really know, it's a very interesting question. I have a hard time deciding, but it has to be either Hallelujah (Jeff Buckley) or Ne Me Quitte Pas, my two favourite songs.

Either my favourite song of all time : Love bites by Def Leppard. Or probably my most emotional song Hurt. Sung by Johnny Cash, not by Nine Inch Nails (who wrote it). That song almost has me in tears every time. Especially after you know he died shortly afterwards and his wife (in the video) died even sooner than that. Right choker.

On the other hand maybe something a bit more upbeat to take you out of it. Possibly something by AC/DC to really pump it up. Or perhaps, for me anyway, something by the Bee Gees or Abba

I know what I want at my funeral though. A friend of mine suggested it years ago and it's brilliant : Wish you were here by Pink Floyd.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

I would chose longplayer

What is Longplayer?
Longplayer is a one thousand year long musical composition. It began playing at midnight on the 31st of December 1999, and will continue to play without repetition until the last moment of 2999, at which point it will complete its cycle and begin again. Conceived and composed by Jem Finer, it was originally produced as an Artangel commission, and is now in the care of the Longplayer Trust.

Longplayer can be heard in the lighthouse at Trinity Buoy Wharf, London, where it has been playing since it began. It can also be heard at several other listening posts around the world, and globally via a live stream on the Internet.

Since someone mentioned funerals, I'd have "I know a song that will get on your nerves" looped endlessly through a speaker built in to my gravestone!!!!

Man this is a hard one.

Here are the one's I'd contemplate. ( It's kinda a long list. >.> )

Made them links to Youtube videos instead of posting all the videos in one giant post.

"Hurt" - Nine Inch Nails
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvJKVKglIRs
"Right Where It Belongs" - Nine Inch Nails
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jAyfGzSaz0
"Hand Covers Bruise" - Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SBNCYkSceU
"I.V" - X Japan
http://youtu.be/GDrnJvK-j70
"Citizen Erased" - Muse
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiHUKVoYbdc
"Dearly Beloved" - Yoko Shimamura
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yna9FIlV03Y
"Coil" - Opeth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbubISlLdH8
"Comfortably Numb" - Pink Floyd
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZB1cNkC71vE

And that's my list. I think at my funeral we'd just have a playlist going or something. And these are just the ones off the top of my head! >.>

EDIT: Of course in making this list I totally the original question was what song would I choose to listen to before I died. And well... that would be a hard one.

Lots of people are posting sad or slow songs, but I don't think I'd like that, I'd want something more upbeat.

The best one that comes to mind and one of my favorite songs is Youtopia by Armin van Buuren ft. Adam Young. I can just close my eyes and listen to it and it's almost like a dream. Here's the video, I suggest doing 720p, for some reason it makes a big difference in the quality for this song.

That depends... if I was in a sober mood id pick;

If I wanted to go out with a bang Id pick;

Interesting Idea... and I agree that you can tell a lot from a person lol I mean just look at me; One country and one rap

[EDIT] Actually none of these would really be my choices ... they just dont feel right... I dont know, youve hit a really hard question [/EDIT]
