A company is a legal structure, not a number of people who come together. One person can form a company, or even a corporation. The bottom line though, is a company - being a legal structure - is registered (normally with a city, county or state), has a licence to operate as a business, and pays taxes (unless the business is registered as a non-profit)or reports it's income in some form or fashion.

All that being said, whether or not you actually are or have a "business" is a rather taboo subject on this forum. (Especially when you actually aren't or don't)

FROM THE WEBSITE: Welcome to Carnage Productions! We are a indie game company that creates great games and game models!

There are other, more suitable words you could use for "company" which would better relate your present state such as group, or body.

The website looks good for a "webs" site, but it looks like every other "webs" site I've ever seen. You might try for more originality, which brings up the point of the name you chose. "Carnage Productions" has 3,490,000 returns in a Google search. Either you've become extremely popular in a very short period of time or you've chosen a name that is very much in use by many other people/companies.

Best of luck with the site and game development.
Brian.

This is a little bit off topic but lets say I make a game and want to sell it. I have a domain registered and a site up and running. On the site I have the paypal checkout button so you can buy my game. Do I then have to register for taxes or whatever else? Or can I freely sell my games on the internet without dealing with legal crap? (No copyright or DRM protection, just the game, and I live in the US)

Check you state laws, but the short answer is yes, you can. If you don't have a "brick-and-mortar" store of which this site is an extension, or until you make enough in sales to have to report the income, you can sell the game on your site. Again, check your local laws but this is normally the case.

I read somewhere that if your company is online you don't need a license.

Since a company is a licensed entity, you can't have a company without a license. That would just be a personal website.

Here in sweden atleast it depends on the earnings, anout 16k SEK / years is the amount you are allowed to earn without paying taxes

(thats ~~ 1600 euro)

If I know what you mean, then yeah, my bad I admit, normally I take a company as a group of people hence the word "Company". Oh well, but that's just me.

Edit: Edited that post out.

In Sweden you don't have to register your company name to be considering owning a company. But it is recommended to do register your company name so that it won't get confused with other companies named the same thing.

I have no idea how this works globally though.

Just read the "spoiler" to your game that you're making. Oh lord.

I'm gonna stay out of this one.

Good luck.

Oh and by the way, I would take this link http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=177044&b=25 (the Anonymous game link) off of your website. If someone was to actually click that link, and read everything you have posted, it would be near impossible to take your website seriously. Just my opinion at least.

Aha. I remember being like you when I was 10-14.
Then I left home and life got real.

Good luck to you. Hope it pays off.
May have taken nine years for it to pay off for me but hey, it's starting to!

Max

No. Think about it for a minute... What does your website offer that every other FPSC website doesn't? From what I see, it offers literally nothing. You have one download available on the entire website.
All you have done on the website is create an account, type a couple paragraphs about your "ups and downs," and claim you have a game in production that will sell for $5.00
Your website just isn't complete. There is nothing on there that makes it worthwhile.

I was in the same boat around the same age as well. In fact, I even did try to make a webs.com site for FPSC as well. I made a forums too. The forums lasted a good year then went straight to death. But the website was as useless as tits on a bull. There are already a few great FPSC media sites, so there really just isn't a purpose for any sites like these. Especially since webs.com sites are all an exact copy of the other.

After reading your thread in the FPSC WIP board... I couldn't help but find irony in your forum's rules. specifically...

Hmmm.... Now who would go and do that???

Everyone is so harsh on this guy, but if you joined these forums (or similar forums elsewhere) in your teens then I can almost guarantee you have done something similar at least once. I know I did!

Slayer, my advice is to avoid calling it a company site. You are too young to be taken seriously, and your grammar, hosting service, and site design does not really help. Instead, take about a week or two to learn HTML and CSS. That's all it should take. You'll be able to build a custom website that's all your own and host it somewhere else, maybe even pay a small fee to get a .com or .net. They're usually less than $10 a year, and some hosting is under $5 a month. Just build a personal portfolio site and track the stats. There's no need to add a forum right away. People won't sign up, it's just a fact. There are so many other forums out there that people already frequent. Instead of a forum add a blog to your front page. Use it to post news, updates, and screenshots. Any followers or community can interact there and it will give people a reason to come back if it's updated frequently. Forums can come later, and I'd say it would be best to make them support forums for your released projects.

Point being, is that an empty forum is a biiiig turn off to anyone looking at your products. If they get that far and don't see many people active on your forum they may take your product less seriously, but if they see an active website with weekly updates and comment threads under the posts, then it makes your product more interesting.

I didn't, and I'm still in my teens

Mind you, I did make a codebreaking spy website. That brings me back. It had this awesome midi theme tune, and you had to answer a spy-related question to get in. Seemed like the coolest thing ever back then

This.

Alright. Okay. Im going to be completely blunt with a chance of sounding like a troll.

I find it really annoying when someone calls themselves a company, but has a .webs website, is not even registered to be a company, and has nothing to sell/make/etc. What's the point? Seriously. Stop wasting your time. I don't mind you having dreams and hopes, but if you're gonna pull something like this off, atleast have some common sense.

What Agent Dink said was true. Although do not let it discourage you.
It is, after all, your inspiration and dedication that will get you somewhere in life. In the long run.
I always like people that are committed to the industry before they are out of high school .
