So... Two friends and I are trying to start up a legitimate programming group, but... we're having trouble picking a name.

Unfortunately, "neurofuzzy" is a rice maker brand, aaaaand so we're not going to use that for a group name. I'll probably move the contents of neurofuzzydev to <newdomain>.com/neuro/, and keep using neurofuzzy as my online alias, but it won't cut it for an official name.

Anyways, we've been tossing ideas around, but usually any time we're trying hard to come up with good names, they degenerate into funny names.

Uhh, so, can anyone help us come up with names? It needs to be school-appropriate (though that's not hard), to have a free domain name, and to not be a registered trademark.

Fuzzy Edges?

Fuzzy Physics/ Fuzzy Fysics

Nuzzle Fuzzle.... wait no.

Fuzzy Neurons?

Can you give us more details about the company? It's kinda hard to think of names when all we have to go on is 'like this, but not'. What specifically do you program, what's your unique selling point?

Whatever you decide just don't stick 'soft' anywhere in the title.
Always been a pet hate of mine and I don't know why...

That being said;

NeuroSoft
SoftFuzzyandWarm <------EDIT: I actually like this one
DevSoft
Soft SoftWare

In all seriousness it should be something quite personal and not something a bunch of strangers on the net have said. Friends of mine called Daz and Julian a couple of years ago started a band up called Zadian. Zad - Daz backwards and ian- the last three letters of Julian.
It worked and it was personal.

I think you already have your company name lurking at the back of your minds.

Hidden in plain sight and overlooked because it is so obvious to you.

get everyone in your group to pool their old alias's, their song names, game names, villian and hero names, planet names. any creative title, no matter how far removed from programming.

it will come from the most unexpected place.

I Struggled with a name for ages before Settling for

"Mad Mirror Media"

The Mad mirror was a quirky little psy trance music piece I wrote about 4 years ago, it turned into an album name, a band name, and now has migrated into my name for anything media related.

But not before going through a string of crap over thought names. Your name will just jump out from old disregarded thoughts as you sift through the "acceptable name" pile.

good luck man

isnt those the same?

well for me it is...

alias: Quik (on the net), game names Quik, Villian would be quik... Hero would be Quik...
my personal planet would be QuikPlanet... x))))

and for the record, I am a man.

I own hamsterpiece.com! Sounds like it may fit what you're going for. I'm going to be using it for fun and interesting techy type things. I could create a subdomain like group.hamsterpiece.com or something. I assume you want something under your own control. I would be happy to point the subdomain to your own server for your own uses.

My personal projects are currently super-secret but stuff may pop up in a few weeks time.

Just an idea that popped up.

Hope you figure out the name from the tagline lol.

EDIT

Figured an '-' in the title would do the trick of breaking it apart...

EDIT

WOOOOO 'JAM-SOFTWARE.COM'

NICE!

EDIT

Or you could just go with JAMSOFT lol Squaresoft anybody?

Just change fuzzy for neuro and double your options.
Neuro-pants
Fuzzy-pants

fuzzyware
Fuzzybit studios
Fuzzybyte studios
fuzzyrex
fuzzyline

To be honest, just add a arbitrary word after a your unique word. Works for most indie's.
