The awesomest game thread was a lot better than this one!

I got a chuckle out of this thread, which I think of as
what happens when mods have fun on the forums.

Not as funny, but still brings out a chuckle.

gendestroier: Thanks brother. Ignorance I can deal with. Folks who don't model, have no clue of the amount of work that goes into creating this stuff. But a "Here's what I want! I expect it for FREE, so get busy!" attitude is where I lose it.

And when he began making up his own rules for everyone to follow here... Well, he deserved what he got in my book.

Anyway, folks need to understand that the media that is given away for free here, is a "gift" from those who make it. It's not our job to simply make stuff for people to make they're games with. And no one here is at the beck, and call of fellow forum members.

We are here to give advice, point folks in a direction that will help them to become a better, and more productive game developer, and share our accomplishments with the friends we make here.

Personally, I'm not against the occasional request for a particular bit of media, as it gives those who are learning, the chance to take on new challenges, to help them improve they're skills. And for the rest of us, it's a chance to have a little fun, and do something nice for a fellow member of the community.

But what really matters to myself, and others, is that if you have a request, make it with the expectation that it will not get done for you, just because you ask for it. And show respect, for your fellow community members, and ask nicely!

You may be surprised at what you get in return.

I don't even want to get started on these make this for me free or do this for and I will credit you, or my favorite and I quote this one " I have all these models that need made fpsc ready and I promise you that when the game is completed and sold I will pay you for your work. "

You know I have money and I am willing to pay people for updates for fpsc or make models, scripts or whatever and what do I get, nothing. Not even a thanks for thinking I am great, but I currently cannot help you.

Funny how I said I didn't even want to get started on this. Ask Cp of the nice emails him and I have had. Laters

@Cosmic Prophet's "estimate"

To put it in perspective in the state I live in the minimum wage is 8.00 an hour.

That a modeler would work for only 2.00 more per hour is a pretty gross underpaying to the extent that its truly insulting. Its a highly technical AND artistic blend of skills that is actually very difficult to obtain compared to say .. oh flipping burgers at Burger King.

Even if you are a low-skilled modeler, who's day job is indeed minimum wage - your rate for modelling should be higher than 10 dollars an hour -- don't under value your skills. Letting people who literally wont pay for *anything* determine that you should get minimum wage for a job that few in the world can even begin to attempt is ludicrous.

Artists - your time and skills are worth a premium rate make sure you are getting compensated and not abused.

erebusman: True, But please note, that in my little rant, I was being sarcastic. I had no real intention of doing anything for the guy. Even if he did offer to pay that ridiculously low rate.

Before I retired, My going rate was between 40-60 dollars an hour as a Graphic Designer. I've made nearly 2 grand just for a single 4 color process, resort brochure layout. And that was over 10 years ago.

My "Start Paying!" comment, was a dig at his "Start Posting!" comment.

It was not meant to be taken literally.

If he had made the same request in a polite, and respectful manner, I probably would have helped him out, and not charged him a dime. But that's me.

Thanks for pointing that out though, Art production is a skilled trade, and takes years of hard work to get good at. And for those wishing to sell they're work, "Always" try and price your work according to your skill.

i think NOT locking these kind of threads is the best way of teaching these kids in good behavior. just locking it only causes a new thread at the same day without understanding why it makes us laughing so much.

here is some fun for the community, a very good bad-example, and in reading our comments, every "intelligent" entity with an iq bigger than that of a bootstrap should understand how stupid his behavior is.

so: good work, mods, to leave things like this open from time to time. thumbs up!

btw: this what happens when mods have fun on the forums is the best i have ever seen on any boards i was around.^^

xplosys, haven't been posting much, because I bought a new home and have been spending all my spare time for the last year remodeling it. I just got finished with it recently and now I have some spare time so I just dusted of my PC and fired up 3D Coat and Max and started modeling again, I have a few character models made I just have to rig and animated them. I'll be posting them on the boards,i have to update my website aswell

You might not know it for the fact that I have to make snappy remarks in this kind of topic...but I don't like posts like this. They remind me that a lot of people out there simply do not value our efforts that we put in our free projects and expect all the media we share for granted. Especially cosmic prophet as a leading artist in this media on here.

I start to ramble... to make this thread less of a waste of time, I attached a free creepy scifi sewer ambience track. Its from the "symbiotic" soundtrack composed ages ago and it is rather useless to me. Maybe you can do something with it.
