For those who havent noticed, you can now get acces to the open beta.

For PC gamers, look in the "Free games" section on Origin, and you will find it.

Buggy as hell. I know it's a month old build, but still. So buggy.

The only two bugs i found were when you respawn the colour stays greyed out. (hitting Esc and play fixes) Then you get the occasional player stuck as a corpse that can fire. Grenade does the trick.

A toggle crouch ctrl with hold in for prone would be nice, need to change prone to shift since im not screwing my little finger up hitting z.

First impression being entirely new to it. Hectic, dis-organised mess, the MW run and gun does not work silly noob team-mates. I watched a person rush repeatedly the same area over and over again only to be mowed down by defenders, since you know it was there spawn and all. On that, spawn campers are rife. There's a few bottlenecks people camp in with flash lights strobing in metro. Turbo key of some kind that just screw everything up.

But honestly i love it.
I didn't get a chance on Caspian since its packed constantly so i haven't tried vehicles out yet. Ive joined a squad so im hoping that the player issues will be gone then and when it releases, the noobs will whittle down and it'll be smashingly good fun!

Haven't played yet, but that makes no sense laz prone couldn't be held down, think how ridiculous it would be to keep your finger pressed on it all the time, and the time spend standing and lying down again. Crouch is always held though, because crouching usually constitutes kneeling, a quick motion... and what's wrong with z? use your 4th finger

It's actually so on PS3. You press R3 and crouch. Hold it and go prone.
By the way. PS3 beta is a piece of crap technically. Pop-up/texture & model loading, models floating through surface (sometimes even including players while prone! ) and even the screen going all-pink randomly for a frame or so!

Make games, not war.

I got the PS3 one, it's really buggy but i truly enjoy it! I don't mind the in-game model loading, i guess it's just there for loading time reasons. I've seen several other games do this before, but it's sort of annoying when i want to see how the graphics really look, but the real time ground destruction is a nice touch, and the one game mode is extremely fun. I've noticed the pink blinking before, it only happens to me when a lot of people are firing around me. I'm definitely buying this game.

Everyone i've talked to who's played it, is absolutely infatuated with it, i've heard nothing but good from people with this beta, for good reason too.

So I played it on my gaming rig, and I have to say that IT'S FRAKIN AWESOME. Even better if you get into a Conquest server. I got it with videokilledtheradiostar but it changes often.

I played it slightly early with my MoH key. My first impressions were not great but its grown on me and I do quite enjoy it now. But where is the Battlefield 1942 theme!

Played the beta on both ps3 and on pc it's awesome yet at times visually disappointing: on the ps3 it looks like Bad Company 2 but the lighting is significantly better however textures take longer to load up. on the pc it is incredibly hard to get a kill unless if you are heavily experienced in the battlefield series.

Overall I'd say the highlights of the game come in the animation and gameplay, both are near flawless.

*Note you only get motion blur on directx11.

Not really, I'm a total newcomer to the BF series and I get my fair share of kills. There are, however, some people who are total bosses at the game. The thing I'm concerned about is that people are just going to focus on K/D and not points. One of my friends said that points are useless and that K/D shows your real skill. I responded that it's easier to kill with Assault than say Engineer.
He stills goes on believing that it's all about K/D and not points.

Sorry I'm just obsessed with motion blur and I do have to agree with you on vegetation.

Also on the ps3 version (I don't know about the pc or xbox360) there is a certain bit in the park in which there is no collision so you either fall through the map to your death, or mashing the jump button as fast as you can to climb up.

Haha I got this when it came out and already played Caspian Boarder twice! Although my computer is able to run metro from 20-40 FPS I only got about 10-20 on Caspian but the server for it is really bad because its an internal backup but the vehicles are so AWESOME!! The helicopter is a bit... odd? The jets are hard to take off when its laggy but other than that AWESOME!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Metro is designed to attract CoD players. I have a couple of friends that love CoD and tried out the beta and now want BF3 instead of MW3.

You can like both. However, Christmas is coming up and and I don't think most families are going to buy 2 shooters. Therefore its MW3, BF3, GoW3, or Uncharted 3 to name a few. BF3 wants a large cut of sales so they're trying to attract CoD players.

Yeah, the increased bullet damage seems to be inspired by CoD.
Did anyone notice the sounds in this just aren't on par with, say, BC2?

Been playing around with beta.
And the graphics do look quite terrible, even with everything on high and resolution at 1920x1080.

Now I'm scrubbing my computer clean of it. Origin included. It's the worst setup i have ever seen. Literally the worst. The original homeworld had better networking than this. To play the game you not only need origin but whatever browser you use too. Bare in mind Opera, IE and Chrome all have major compatibility issues so you need Firefox really.

The game, two months from store release still has major flaws. Bare in mind bf3 now has to be fully finished to be out on time since it needs to be burnt on discs, shipped to sorting, then to shops around the world. And this is all because they want to compete with MF3? Well Activision are probably wetting themselves laughing at the sorry state of this.

Rage. rage. rage.

Also be careful of the strobbing flash lights people use. There turbo keying 't' or whatever it is so you cant see anything. Can causes epileptic fits and momentary blindness.

I picked up the ps3 version because i couldnt bare to install origin on my computer, it ran perfectly, havent had any glitches happen to me personally, however their collision system on the map available is garbage, i think its due to the pits that are formed by the missiles and it not being able to determine exactly where the collision geometry should deform; so you can occationally dip into the terrain or if you're prone go completely under it.

Plus the character and weapon LOD's can take some to change.

As well as some minor graphical issues, i've been able to connect to games without fault and to be quite honest, it looks beutiful enough for me on the ps3 so i think i'll avoid origin like the plague and pick it up for that... thanks ea

I do admit the first part of the map is pretty ugly... not that fun. The rest is quite the improvement. I'm really having fun with it anyways, but I don't understand the point of the lack of main menu. What's its gain? The map provided doesn't really feel Battlefield like... I suppose its the lack of vehicles and expansive terrain. But I expect a bit more as it moves along...

...Ok, I get that Origin is an extra program to run in the background and it's a game store platform most of us aren't going to switch to, but using it as a launcher to play a game is not the end of the world, and honestly. Playing the beta and using web browser is kind of cool as a menu system. At least if the game crashes you don't have to reboot the whole game to go back to the options to reconnect. There are no splash screens. There are actually a lot of plusses to that system. It's weird, but it's new, and you're all scared of new things, which is sad because this is a game design forum. You should embrace changes in the industry and want to see where things go.

Honestly I was surprised by how good the game looked running it what appeared to be 1920x1080 (i say appeared, because I actually didn't adjust any options and I don't know what it was set at) for me on my 3 year old PC with dual monitors at full res. I thought my PC specs would have been significantly out of line, but they're not. It runs good, even with the things going on in the background. This whole problem everyone has with Origin is a little unfounded. It didn't ruin my experience whatsoever. I think you all are a bit to whiney.

Look back to the early days of Steam. Everyone hated Steam. Now the gaming world swears by it. Steam is one of the coolest game markets to hit PC. Yeah, Origin is trying to do the same thing, and maybe it's not there yet, but what's wrong with some good healthy competition.

Stop complaining and play the game. The game is great. (despite some bugs and things, it's beta, come on guys get real.)

alright.. the reasons to why i DONT want another gaming platforms:

first of: 5-6 mayor ones that we already have is MORE than enough

second of(most importantly): what if activision follows up? then say THQ etc? we dont need an individual game starter/company

third of: I really dont feel like remembering 3 passwords just to play games, and running 3 game browsers.. thats a waste of space: its like having 10x chrome up when i can have 10x tabs, or having 3 msn accounts with 10 diff people each

fourth: It's >dull<

The issue I had with this is that at this stage in the dev cycle in order to meet their release date they'd have to have the final game sent to reproduction within the next week if not already, and if this is their current code then these issues will be present in the final release, if not, then its old code and everything's fine, but as said in my post, i didnt really have all that many problems.

Also the problem I have with origin has nothing to do with the fact that its a background task, or that its a competator to steam, my problem stems from this section of it's terms and conditions:

Quote: " 2. Consent to Collection and Use of Data.

Not saying data collection is right, but honestly, they're not tracking anything different than any other website or application already tracks, and with millions of users, your data is essentially meaningless on it's own. A gaming company is not a dark sinister force invading your privacy and tracking you and your family down, selling your information to the government. They're saying, hey, 40% of our users are do this and so it would be a good idea to target advertising or an update for this group of people because it would be profitable to us or beneficial to them.

It's not all that big of a deal.

There is no possiblility of the internet knowing whom I am as it is in no way stored on my computer or out in the internet. This may sound a bit presumptuous, but never has my name been included in anything. I leave plenty of misleading trails though. It doesn't really matter though does it? They get their marketing details from swissolo and I move freely on a mostly separate basis. Is this the modern symbiotic relationship? Probably.

We're starting to lead astray from the main topic though. BF3 does seem to be a bit CODisized... Not terribly though. I forget whom said it before, but someone said they increased the bullet damage. I really see the opposite. Seems to me you can take a couple wounds before going down. BF2 was death on sight
