Hello FPSC community,

I just finished reinstalling FPSC and v1.18 and I installed MP 12 for me to work on a game as a gift for a friend. But when I run the test game, with or without full shaders, the segments appear invisible! I can see all the doors and other stock media in my level!

When you walk around, you don't hear any sounds that show that the player is walking. All you hear is the background music. If I walk on stock media (eg: a gantry), then I hear the metal footfall sounds. On the MP 12 segments, I don't. I put a character using Dark AI in the map and he walks around just fine.

I have checked the FPS files and they appear to have all the correct information and are filled out just fine. I do not know why the segments are not appearing in game. Are there any ideas as to how I can fix this?

Thank you,
Captain Coder

Hey there Captain! Go to your segments and choose the stock common floor (The grey looking one), and draw in a small area somewhere in the map, and see what happens.

Cosmic Prophet!?!

Thanks for lending me some help!

Tested the idea, and the segments shows up.

Thanks for your help!

Umm...

I'm sorry, I think I miscommunicated... again! I have these communication problems a lot. Sorry!

The stock media segments show up, but the Model Pack 12 segments don't...

Again, my apologies for miscommunication.

MP12 segments use jpg for textures (located in that segment's folder), and if you installed FPSC v1.18, then you may need to change the textures to a different format (such as DDS, PNG). If I recall correctly, v1.18 no longer supports jpg.

Hmm... is that just for segments? Because the MP 12 characters use JPG's, and they show up in-game just fine. I will test it though, I really want to get these guys to work!

Thanks,
Captain Coder

PS: I really like your website Blackfox! I just might be able to make use of some of the media on there. They do include licenses/readme's, right? Thanks!

YEP! What BlackFox said.

Also note, that if you check your order history, there is an update for MP12 that contains the .png files, and normal maps for the pack.

I'm just trying to help troubleshoot and that was my first thought. I had a WW2 game where some segments used jpg. When we built it in FPSC v1.18 and entered the game, we had a similar issue. Someone told us it was because of the textures being in jpg. I reverted back to v1.17 instead of changing the textures. I never did try the characters that use jpg in v1.18, but I did experience the issue with the segments.

Thanks. My wife and I have spent a lot of time making the site more friendly and having the content. Most (if not all) the media posted do have a readme/license included. Most of the media is free to use both commercial/non-commercial. There is some that is non-commercial, and it is clearly marked as such.

You should actually check all your pack purchases, there are many that have been updated in 2010, through 2011, that include new files for current compatability.

Oh, rats. My internet speed stinks on ice and I the download is in excess of 100 MB! Oh, well, I'll deal with it.

You were right, CP, most of the update dates show Feb. 2011.

CP, could you share with us where and how you learned to become such a great artist? You're work makes the jaws of us forum dwellers drop at what you do, and I would love to be able to make quality items for my own games. If you would rather keep it a "secret," well, I can understand why quite well.

Blackfox, thanks for sharing the info. I have one minor suggestion: See if you could create a downloads tab near the top of the page. I knew you guys had free media for download on your site, but I couldn't find it for a while. Just a thought, it already looks great.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Well, I always had a knack for art while growing up. About 30 years ago while living in Miami FL. I landed a job for a company that did contract work for All the major theme resorts, and tourist sites in FL. and nearby states. Including Walt Disney World, Warner Bros. (Universal Studios), Kennedy Space Center, etc. as well as many other local industries, and private companies.

We produced everything from Kids coloring books to T-Shirts, too much to list here. After a few years there, I was fortunate enough to become a private contract artist for The "Disney Store" chain of retail stores. After moving from Fl. many years later, I continued working as a freelance illustrator, designer for many major companies including Phillip Morris, Danskins, and again too many to list here.

I've only been doing 3D art, and modeling for around 2 years or so, but the background I had helped quite a bit. The hardest part was adapting my skills to be used in 3D work.

So now I just do this for fun, not profit. Beats sitting around the house watching TV all day.

Things are showing up in game, thanks! Everything is also looking more professional as well, I'm glad TGC fixed up the pack.

Wow, impressive history there, CP. One more question: do you draw those awesome textures (like the ones in your Sci Fi Model Pack 4) yourself, or do you modify well-taken pictures?

Thanks to all for the help!

That's very wise of you. Now yellow and I are walking out the front door. Don't try to stop us or she gets it. If we're not followed, I'll release her at the nearest comic book store. Don't try to be a hero and no one else will get hurt.

That's right Fox, I almost forgot. You and yellow have a little history. Paris. May, 1984, wasn't it? Ah yes, a little dive called Crayo La Expo and yellow was head lining that night. She wore a shiny yellow wrapper with black stripes and letters that clung to her slender, wax figure. She was on her break, sitting alone at the table near the back when you came in. The rest is history, shall we say.

What you never knew was that she was sitting at that table with me, making plans for our future together. We were set to run away that very night. When I returned from the toilet, she was gone.

It will take more than a few shiny pennies to get your precious yellow back. When I get finished coloring with her, she'll be half the crayon you knew. Mwa ha ha.

Alright, Mr X. I did not want to do this, but you leave me no choice.

Remember these?

You best make sure to return Yellow, or this is what will happen next:

I'll let my 2 year old son color on your precious paper money. He'll turn it into his favorite coloring pad, and that's all it will be worth. As you can see, he loves to color on paper.

Your choice... your precious paper money? Or yellow?

Screw the Ham sandwich, I'm getting a lawn chair, and some popcorn, this is getting good. Stay tuned folks.....

Does the evil xplosys and Yellow find happiness in the big coloring book of life? Will yellow end up half the crayon she once was, and will blackfox destroy all his paper money, bringing down the villein's evil empire? And will this thread ever recover from this invasion of insanity? Only time will tell.

No! Not my monopoly money you heartless bast... beast!

You win again Fox, but this isn't over. Was it over when Seth REDACTED all his posts? No. Was it over when Terry fell off the end of the forum? NO. Was it over when Frankie called Dale a Pin head? Hell NO! And it ain't over now! "I'll be back!"

Xplosys raises his shiny cloak and disappears in a cloud of white smoke, leaving yellow alone and dazed, but not injured. In the distance, a faint evil laugh blends into the sounds of the night.

Once again Our Hero Blackfox has thwarted the diabolical plans of the forces of evil. The fair Yellow stands ripped of her dignity, and her shiny wrapper, Unharmed, but destined to suffer the pain of her ordeal forever.

But do not fear fellow forum members, for the power of good watches over us! When evil turns it ugly head and stares into the face of the mighty forum defender, and in a trembling voice screams "WHO ARE YOU?!?"

All that can be heard is "Tell all your evil friends, "I'm Blackfox!"

And yeah, I'm Hungry!

Xplosys never let on that the money BlackFox was holding was fake. The real money was safely tucked away in a secret Shanghai bank. Yes, he let yellow go, but only to set in motion a bigger trap, one which would certainly spell the end for his long time nemesis, BlackFox. Everything is going according to plan.
