@soviet176

I'm REALLY suprised at how well the AI works out here. it's one of my favourite fight scenes in the entire game, and, while it took a lot of choreography and scripting and careful optimization, It came out very nice in the end. if you send me an email, or skype me, I'd be glad to link you a video of the level being played through so you can see for yourself!

Looks cool!

Do you use your imagination to make the rooms or do you use floor plans?

@Bugsy, I think you should make the level of the waiting area higher than the rails, it's always like that. Almost all of the trains station I saw was like that, just an opinion . But all in all still your work is a masterpiece.

Ey Bugsy! Keep this thread rolling, I want to see the overhaul of that rooftop levels. Any one else feeling that this thread needs more screenshots?

Anyway! You grew major skills when it comes to leveldesign. If you have the metro theater pack, use that door shader it has to fix the glowing doors issue. (you have to add the shader maps to the doors though. But thats no big deal)

well, first I tried a raised floor made out of segments, but when I tested the AI were halfway through the floor, at which point I realized I forgot to move them up

I moved them up, and they'd fight me, but they ignored all the entities.

then I tried using one large segment floor made to cover the whole ground area. that didn't work either, they didn't even move.

after that I tried using an entity floor, but each one had shadows oddly placed on it, and the enemies wouldn't move.

then I tried lowering the traintrack floor, but that caused culling problems in that the rest of the map was constantly rendered, causing for polycounts over my max limit of 130k during a gunfight.

I see you put a lot of tought into your levels. To me,it looks like a pretty awesome shooter from Source engine. If you added shaders to everything,it would look outstanding. Keep on it!

It's looking good - I have one or two small gripes:

In the second screen (First post), you've arranged planks and junk to create a little ramp from the bottom floor to the first level of the room. My problem with this is that the ramp is far too neatly positioned to be a random pile of junk. An actual metal ramp would make much more sense and wouldn't detract from the scene (As it stands, it's glaringly obvious that the planks are a ramp anyway) - This is made all the more apparent as, other than the planks, the room is void of any other entities. I think to make this scene work, more junk needs to be added. It just looks too carefully set up at the moment.

My other small gripe is that in picture 5 (Office with vent), the light does not look like it's coming from the computer as it is shining off the screen. I'm unsure if that can be fixed, but I noticed it immediately and thought I should point it out.

@ chargerbandit- thanks!
@ buttmonkey- as for the ramp, it's all one model from cosmic prophet. I may or may not change it. as for extra clutter, there is some in the corners, but it's kind of a bad screenshot. also I'd consider a burning firebarrel to be clutter

the office in picture 5, I don't know if it can be fixed but I'll try I guess.

Are the entities that you use in this game are stock? Or they are self made? If self made maybe there is a problem with the collision? Try to double check, or sometimes it's just a bug, I also experienced this kind of problem in the first digmaan, it is where the aliens pass through walls and entities, I just put the invisible wall and it works. I don't know if this will work for you but maybe you could try it.

Quote: "then I tried using one large segment floor made to cover the whole ground area. that didn't work either, they didn't even move."

I experienced that problem too, I just change the segment cause, I don't know what to do anymore with them lol, trust me it's really a headache I remove the segment of the whole level and put new ones. xD

Quote: "after that I tried using an entity floor, but each one had shadows oddly placed on it, and the enemies wouldn't move."

It is because of the shadows I guess, fpsc thinks the shadows are solid, I sometimes encountered it to some entities I have here, maybe removing the shadow will do, however it will lessen the quality of the level design.

Quote: "then I tried lowering the traintrack floor, but that caused culling problems in that the rest of the map was constantly rendered, causing for polycounts over my max limit of 130k during a gunfight."

That hurts... try using stock segments and I already made a level with such train rails and the level of the waiting area is higher and it works. Just used the stock segments.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway I do not know and I am not sure if it will all work to you, but it works for me. Are you using any mod? Cause I'm not. Some mods also giving fpsc some problems.

Hope this helps, by the way, can you visit my wip, I guess I need your opinion on level designs, I really wanted to make my team's game great. And O,If you need some personalized huds, you can ask for my help, I can even lend you my compass or create a new one for you. Don't worry it's free of charge, just wanna help great artists like you.

stock but I retextured them myself.

Quote: "maybe removing the shadow will do, however it will lessen the quality of the level design."

DEFINITELY don't want to do that.

Quote: "That hurts... try using stock segments and I already made a level with such train rails and the level of the waiting area is higher and it works. Just used the stock segments."

all of my segments are retextured stock segments.

Quote: "Are you using any mod?"

it is the same with stock and waspmod but I like waspmod so I stuck with it.

courtesy? sure. I'll go check it out in a bit.

O wow, now I am thinking what would be the real problem.

Quote: "DEFINITELY don't want to do that. "

O yeah, I am thinking the same, since it will really lessen the quality of the game.

Quote: "all of my segments are retextured stock segments."

Hmmm, maybe you can stick with what you already did, anyway during the old days, waiting area and trains are the same floor level.

Quote: "it is the same with stock and waspmod but I like waspmod so I stuck with it."

So your using wasp mod, anyway, wasp mod is good specially on making your framerate performance good.

I really love to use it also however, wasp mod is free only for non-commercial use, so I guess I'll stick with no mods at all.

Quote: "courtesy? sure. I'll go check it out in a bit."

Hey, uhmm, thanks for dropping by my thread, it will really help my game. I already posted my reply.

Quote: "I'll be sure to hit you up~"

And yes, just send me a message or just post something to my thread or this thread about hud request and even blood effects. Or if you want, you can use the blood effect I just created, anyway, I am creating a new one and want to make it more realistic, maybe you can suggest things to do on the blood effects to make it more better in terms of quality and make it more realistic. So we can have realistic bloods to use in games. And I will help you definitely for free.

no i made the roads and curbs and stuff. enemies pathfind fine, due to several hours upon hours upon hours of script-choreography.

perhaps I will. I dont know though, I like the sidewalks.

But, I don't know, your my mate here and for me telling those bad things about my mate's creations is really bad, and another thing, he also accused one a cheater? If your fine with it then I guess, I need to calm a bit.

Ang I think the post had undergone change, maybe he already know that I posted it to those titles' thread... He already erase the pictures of our titles including the so annoying comments that he put to it. It's really not bad to voice out what they wanted to say about other's game, however the most irritating word that I read, is the word "cheat" I don't care what he wanted to say about my game or others, however, one of the title's there have a word "cheater". O well I guess I need to calm now. He already erased the evidences that I have.

Anyway, I am not also part of the DTO

yeah, I don't really think it matters what a group of people from a minecraft forum think of your game, but if they don't like it, and you really care about that, then you should re make it! Perhaps the reason they like mine is because I've been working on it over 2 years and It's been remade twice already.

Bugsy, you mind giving me some lighting tips you did for the outdoor night scene? Maybe a screenshot of the editor so I can get an
idea of how you did it. I assume it doesn't eat up a bunch of memory and its pretty stable.

I'm just curious to see what you've done in that map. Thanks.
