** Mod edit **

This post was a bit flamy, in future when someone passes, post it honourably without any derogatory remarks. Have some respect.

The engineers are the true miracle makers not these phony PR stunt men."

Not sure I could possibly disagree anymore.

RIP Ritchie, you did far more for the world than most well accomplished people.

I won't be dissing Jobs, but I would tend to agree I believe C and Unix are far more important innovations than anything to come from Apple. RIP and thanks Ritchie.

Well if there wasn't any Dennis Ritchie there wouldn't have been any Apple. Although I think trying to compare him and Steve Jobs is idiocy since they both innovated upon different things, I wouldn't say one man is better than the other.

RIP, Ritchie

may I ask, why the heck you are comparing him to apple, and trying to make an apple/dennis flamewar?
in a thread which appears to be about his death?

I for one am very saddened to hear this. It's funny over the past month or so, his book which is more or less the C programmers' bible has been right next to me more or less 24/7. The man was a genius.

Both Ritchie and Jobs were great men. Ritchie's contribution to with C, Unix, and portable programming helped accelerate the industry.

A book? I hate book. Book is stupid.

They say these things come in threes. I hope that doesn't hold true.

A man died, and we'll all be respectful from now on please. No comparisons, be positive and respectful or I will slap you.

Thank you for all your innovations Dennis Ritchie, rest in peace. May you live on through your science.

Don't care, don't post about jobs again. It's not relevant. Praise the man you came to praise, or don't post.

I honestly didn't know who he was, but nevertheless, without him, DBP wouldn't exist probably, nor would any other C based language, so i gotta pay my respects.

RIP
Dennis Ritchie

^^ That's true. We would not have any C-based languages, but there would have been others to fill the gap. DBP may still have been, but as with any kind of history, if Dennis Ritchie weren't around at all, then the entire course of computers would have changed. If UNIX never existed, just imagine all the changes that would have taken place. Sure, we wouldn't have Linux, but we might not even have had Windows, since Microsoft originally sold a version of UNIX which led them to develop Windows in the first place. Wow, it's sad that he's gone.

If i'm not mistaken, DBP was developed with C++ so i don't think DBP would exist.
