I see many people trying and abandoning linux on these forums and across the internet, and with good reason. The range of linux software is great. But it in area's it doesn't compete with a windows based OS. Dual booting is an option you've got the best of both worlds, but it means rebooting your machine every time you want to run linux software, and to top of it off a lot of linux software runs on windows anyway.

So what's the answer to those who love linux commands, but find very little real world application for it?

There's a project called andLinux, which you can find at www.andlinux.org it used coLinux as it's core, which is based on Ubuntu. It allows users to seemlessly run native Linux applications directly on your windows desktop. So when you find that rare linux program that's worth rebooting your whole system for, you no longer need too. With andLinux, you simply launch the application directly under windows. No ports, no recompiling, just let it run.

So if you're interested in Linux, and you want some of the software you can only get on that platform, then it's worth trying out andLinux. It'll save you rebooting, and enhance your existing Windows installation.

Please note, this project only works on 32-bit windows. But it does run on 2000, XP, Vista and Seven.
