Hello there, this is me trying to satisfy an immense curiosity about a particular gaming moment you experienced; a moment engraved in stone in your memory from a game that stood the test of time, a moment that often think about time and time again that most games fail to deliver; a moment that is better than a lobster dinner and sunshine on a sandy beach with can of orange fanta!

With all seriousness, in the future, your assistance will prove ever essential in hopefully creating a great game; but for the time being, I and others in similar situations need to make do with limited assumptions and outdated figures.

Please contribute a single digit answer to a question that I intend to use as a major influence for designing and building a great game; an answer to also help others, and perhaps yourself, to do the same.

As mentioned in the thread title; which I hope I posted in the correct forum:

Whilst playing your favourite game, when do you, or when did you, feel most satisfied about it?

Select your answer on my site or answer below with just a single digit, or the same with 60 words or less describing your experience.

Only answer here or on the site, not both.

The options:

0 When I managed to grasp how to play it
1 When I experienced a great delivery of level design or during an interesting scenario
2 When I first watched the introduction scene, or during a certain dramatic cut-scene
3 When I created my first character, or whenever I create a new one
4 When something funny happened to a player, or one of the characters
5 During my first try of the first level or my first experience of the game in general
6 When I accomplished my first task, mission or victory
7 During my most flawless victory, and during the sweetest of victories
8 When I completed the most difficult mission or task, or when I completed the whole game.
9 When I experienced something dramatic or desirable with one or a number of other players in a team

After the first week we have 9 votes.

4 votes for: 1; When I experienced a great delivery of level design or during an interesting scenario

2 votes for: 9; When I experienced something dramatic or desirable with one or a number of other players in a team

1 vote for: 2; When I first watched the introduction scene, or during a certain dramatic cut-scene

1 vote for 5; During my first try of the first level or my first experience of the game in general

If you have the time, website votes require registration but helps me perform an automatic count; this is also a good excuse to get the registration process out of the way if you wish to provide helpful comments for learners on the articles posted on the magnificant and useful piece of code on a webserver that it is.

Otherwise the answers will be added in the poll manually by Alfred and his team of hamsters.

If answering by forum post; all you need to do is type in the answer number.

Also, why not help me and others to improve their games by contributing a brief explanation of your vote in 60 words or less. Anyone who answers with 61 or more words will receive a visit from a very unhappy level 79 kung fu warlord

Super Mario 3 [Vote1] came close; pipe entry from a certain castle,
and wallah, verticle scrolling sign level, then kicks in the underworld music; dede-dede-dede-gigidigee. Civilization 3 came close [Vote5].

Voted City Of Heroes, the only healthy character and I had to save my 7 team members from an ambush of trolls. Excitement, achievement + team satisfaction.

5 During my first try of the first level or my first experience of the game in general

The game was Adventure for the Atari 2600. While the graphics and gameplay don't hold up today (like I needed to state that),, the concept of the game blew me away. It was just so different from anything I ever played, or thought would make a game. Using items to solve puzzles, especialy the first time I realized how the bridge was suppose to be used. The whole multiple screen game-world. And then to experience the first Easter Egg in a video-game in my life... The alternate ending and seeing the credits. It's things like that, that I remember. Same goes for the hidden secrets in Super Mario Bro.'s. Now there was a deeper sense of exploration and bending what one would think they are limited to by what is presented on the screen. Seeing Mario run across the top of the screen, Wow!

When my dad and I played Riven... the ending cutscene with the telescope and fissure. To this day I still think of how realistic it was.

My favourite part of any game is its design. eg going for a wander in morrowind and realizing i could go anywhere and do nearly anything gave me goosebumps.

Sometimes I like to use words out of contents

Not sure which one for this...

The feeling that this is so real/awesome. Playing Mercenary III, you can travel using taxis, boats, planes, but when you climb aboard a spaceship and head for the sky. Your ship just carries on until it finally breaks the atmosphere and you're in space looking at stars and planets.

Awesome feeling!

One of the funniest gaming moments of mine was playing Stunt Car Racer on the Amiga . Theres a track called the roller coaster. The first straight is up a stupidly steap hill and at the top it levels out followed by a 90degree right hander. Racing against someone who didn't know the track was funny, as you'd be side by side right upto the top of the hill, until you'd slam on the brakes only to see the other person fly off missing the corner. It took a good 15 seconds to hit the ground afterwards

I've found that the reason I love games is soundtrack and when it's used. Some parts of games, like the charge on the Reichstag in World at War, the finale on Crysis 2, or the battle with two scarabs on Halo 3. These just have the perfect music to get you into this mode of feeling like you're taking part in something truly historic.

Can't really put this into any of your categories:

First time I played Portal 1, where that huge twist occurs (spoiler for those that haven't played it) :

Has this been happening to anyone else lately? I keep hitting "quote" instead of "code"
