I have been working for the last several months on trying to capture the essence of a classic old game, Alternate Reality the Dungeon, which came out on the8 bit atari, commodore and apple computers in 1987 or so.

I tried to make it as retro as possible to get a lot of the same 'feel' as the original while using new maps and puzzles. It ends up being a combination of 3d, 2d, and text, that I hope flow smoothly together.

The file and screenshots can all be found here http://ar.memso.net

I am attaching a text file that gives a lot more detail, but its also included in the download.

"So it goes."

Jaded Gamer,     I remember the original. So far it looks like a faithful remake. Did you use DB Classic or DBPro? After playing the game for 5 min it became unresponsive. The escape key did not work. Did you disable the escape key.

@ Stab in the Dark software

I used db pro, and the escape key is disabled, so that it can be used to call up the main menu to save/load/exit etc.

what was happening that caused a problem?
If it was locking up on the intro avi, its probably a codec problem, but the intro can be bypassed by pressing any key to get directly into the game.

Jader Gamer,

It froze after interacting with several characters in the dungeon. I will test again and see if I can give you more info on the crash. The intro worked fine.

Stab in the Dark software,

Thank you, I am curious as to what it could be. I have tried many things and not been able to cause a similar response.

I have tested several times and have not been able to duplicate the original crash
